lost on the TIPPING thing...HELP

I know its long but need the help
OK getting married in 10 days, and FH is freaking about the tipping situation. Who gets what, what is standard? A general idea.
At the moment we are concerned with photographer, he made it clear to tip his guys accordlingly. What does that mean. He said he is not charging us the 1 hour over time, so make sure we 'do the right thing'
What are we talking here
I have reg. photog
photojournalist/zap shot
videographer
lighting assistant

Our package is costing 6800, we got thr top package

Please help, thanks

It's tough...i guess you don' thave a choice since they told you they wanted a tip??? From a thing I pulled out of a magazine a photographer is up to you. It said these vendors don't typically receive gratuities but it's your call

Photographer/assistant
floral designer
caterer
cake baker
jeweler videographer
stationer
wedding consultant
seamstress
tuxedo shop
travel agent

I am bad b/c I don't think it's right when someone asks for a tip...tips have gotten way out of hand they are supposed to be for exceptional service...so i can't give you a $$ amount....maybe $20 a piece? It sounds like you already are paying a lot???

we only had one photographer and we gave him $100. He had an assistant that showed up half way through the wedding, but she seemed to be there as a learning experience. I could tell she had no clue what to do, he had to explain everything like he was teaching her, which was fine with me. But we didn't know he was going to bring an assistant so we didn't tip her.

for your situation, you are already paying a lot, i think i would give $75 to the photographers and $50 for any assistants and lighting. Someone please tell me if i'm way off! HTH!

this is a hard topic... how the heck do you tip when you are already paying them so much... I think I agree with the poster above me with 75-100 for photographer and 50 for assistants

We had 2 main photographers, (from 2 diff companies) which we tipped $100 each. We tipped the assistants $50. Same for our videographer, and dj. Main guy got $100, asst's got $50, i think thats pretty much the norm.

thanks, I needed help with this also. I also think the tipping thing is overdone. I'm going to put a tip jar next to my desk in the courtroom next time I go to work. let's see how that goes.
Most attorneys don't think twice about making me work through the weekend for no extra $$.
