Re: lovely bones
Wow, I think I am the only person in the universe who really didn't like it. I guess it's just a preference thing. I don't think it was badly written, I just don't like to read entire books about rape and death and families falling apart.

Re: lovely bones
I just recently read it, too. I didn't 'love' it, but the writing did draw me into the story and compelled me to finish it. I hated the subject matter, and I found it to be profoundly sad, so I cried many times reading it. I just thought that the parts where Susie 'inhabits' Ruth's earthly body and the icicle killing Mr Havey were too far fetched. The author tried so hard to be graphically and emotionally realistic with the crime and how the family was effected, and I felt like these two areas totally made the story lose it's 'realness' and credibility.

I didn't love it, but didn't hate it either. It was a very emotional book....I prefer to read more light-hearted books, so this one wasn't my favorite.

Re: lovely bones
I just got Lovely Bones today. It's an audiobook on CDs. I listen to books when I'm doing cross stitch. OMG!! How OLD does that make me sound????!!!! LOL! Anyway, can't wait to 'read' it.

Re: lovely bones
I didn't think it had a satisfying ending. I liked it but about 3/4 through I was like what's the point? I thought it was so/so.

Sunny,
Did you ever try listening to audiobooks while you stitch! It's GREAT. Gives the eyes a break too!
I rent my books from www.recordedbooks.com, but you can also get them for free at the library.

Re: lovely bones
I am also in the minority who did not care for this book. It started out so well and then just took a major downturn. The icicle storyline was insulting to me as a reader.

Re: lovely bones
I didnt care for it that much. It definately didnt make me cry but I have noticed with books, it definately depends on that mind set you are in at the time of reading it. When i read this book, my moms fiance hadnt passed yet...but looking back on it now, I think it would have made me cry and look at it totally different. I think it shed light on death and life after death, which is a lot of what I have been thinking about recently.

Re: lovely bones
I started the book today. So far I really like it!
I'm up to the part where her father builds the tent with her murderer (forgot his name), and starts to suspect that he knows something...
The part where it was talking about how the father had all these dreams for his children, that they might be artists, or doctors, or 'wildlife photographers' really choked me up.
