Lovin Oven brides...tips for staff?!

Hi gals,

What did you (or are you going to) do about tipping the day-of staff at your wedding? My venue (Tribeca Rooftop) 'suggests' $375 for the maitre'd, $275 for the chef (!), $125-150 for each of 3 waitcaptains, and $125 for the head bartender. That's $1200 extra in tips on top of the 20% gratuity!

Does this sound entirely nuts to anyone else? I can see tipping the maitre'd, but is it common to tip the chef and the wait captains? What do you think about the suggested amounts? Would it be in very poor taste to give less?

Re: Lovin Oven brides...tips for staff?!

tribeca rooftop? is that lovin oven? where is it the city?

it depends how much you are paying per person i think
but $375 for a maitre'd is insane
i was told about $100
unless you are paying $400 a head that does not seem right because there are other people you have to tip that night
I am usually a great tipper(worked as a bartender and waitress so i am never cheap) but that is way too much
what is the gratuity for? never understood that

Yes, it's downtown in Tribeca. www.tribec.com

It's owned and run by the same guy who manages Flowerfield and Land's End, so I'm wondering if the other Lovin' Oven brides have seen the same suggested 'executive gratuity' list. FYI - I was given this list after my final walkthrough meeting, so maybe some of you haven't come across this yet but might later!

Re: Lovin Oven brides...tips for staff?!

Hmmm, maybe you're right and it's just for Tribeca. It just seems crazy to me, but at the same time, I bet that most people just follow along and give the recommended amount, so I'm not gonna feel too good about handing everyone half of the amount they usually get (or none - am I really going to tip the wait captains?!?)

Argh.
