Re: Low Carb
well when you are on phase 2 of south beach you are allowed to eat whole grain foods with more then 4 grams of fiber....no whites at all----i would stay stick to all whole grain and high in fiber and you should be fine
good luck

Re: Low Carb
I love Low carb! Lost 70 pounds and have kept it off (for 4 years). I highly recommend reading the Atkins book because done right, you add a lot of good foods back in. People think that Atkins is no carb...not true. I eat tons of vegetables and fruits. I don't think there is anything unhealthy about not eating white flour, rice and potatoes.

Re: Low Carb
First let me say off the bat that fad diets are fads for a reason! They really are NOT healthy at all for you! Many people end up with heart related problems due to these so called diets! The best diet is moderation of food & healthy balanced meals along with excercise. Here is an article for healthy eating tips.... If you do this & workout you will see the difference!http://www.helpguide.org/life/healthy_eating_diet.htm

i tried the full on atkins thing, and that landed me in the hospital with a kidney infection, so im definitely not doing that again lol.
i'm gonna completely remove white flour and potatoes, and i never ate rice to begin with because i dont digest it well. but all that pasta and bread and potatoes and other starches are all gone now.
i appreciate your help!

i'm doing the low-carb for a specific reason. I am NOT pre-diabetic according to my doctor, but I do have PCOS and i'm developing some of the outward signs of it and one way of reducing one of the embarrassing outward signs is lowering insulin levels.

Re: Low Carb
I think if Atkins didnt work you should try South Beach, it allows you to add high fiber carbs back in your diet slowly in phases

im not necessarily going on the diet to lose weight, although that would be lovely... i'm really going on to lower my insulin level and to regulate my blood sugar. my dr. swears i'm not pre-diabetic, but i worry because part of PCOS is all of these health issues.

Okay in that case then cutting out the white sugars will really help

Re: Low Carb
Also oatmeal is a great morning food to eat! Also if you want to add some protein to it, you can mix in some eggwhites (with the rolled oats that you cook in the pot...not instant) Its call 'custard oatmeal' It just comes out a little thicker...you can't even taste the egg!

Re: Low Carb
I have been doing low carb for 3 years now. The best diet I have ever done- it's not really a diet anymore- its a way of life.
For low carb, you can have carbs that are healthy- look for whole wheat bread that has at least 5 grams of fiber. Look for breakfast cereals with whole grains that are high in fiber as well. Green veggies are good and of course fruits- but very sparingly. I usually have a banana here and there. But stick with whole grain carbs that are high in fiber and you'll be good to go. If you need any food suggestions, I'll be happy to send you a list!

Ok then i also suggest on reading alot of the labels & start buying your food from all natural stores. Such as Trader Joe's. Alot of everyday products have so much sugar & high fructose (which is also sugar) you would be so suprised. I didnt realize that it was a medical concern for you. But regular excercise & starting to eat a more natural food will help ALOT! Stay away from white breads, white potato (even sweet potato can contain alot of sugar) go with multi grains for breads & lots of veggies the darker green the better! GOOD LUCK

Re: Low Carb
I swear by WW I lost 40 pounds and it's just basically 'teaching' you portion control and not to over do it. Yes I go off the edge every now and then but I go right back to my ways the next day. Maybe you can try oatmeal with sliced fruit or light english muffin with some jelly or cheerios with sliced banana and skim milk(my fave). HTH
