Low-Carb Girls . . .

Low-Carb Girls . . .

Are you all following Atkin's or are you doing your own low-carb diet? I am just curious because when I was doing the Atkins diet, I read that you could only have 20 grams of carbs per day and no caffeine. I was suprised to see that some of you are eating fruit. I am thinking of going back to Atkins, but am undecided. I am doing the zone diet and it works really well, except it gets boring and is very hard to eat out while on it (which FI and I happen to do way too often).

I have two years left before the wedding, but would like to reach my goal weight before I start trying on dresses. My problem is that I am afraid that if I start 'dieting' too strictly too soon that I will give up by the time the wedding comes around!

No I guess you can say that I am not following Atkins because I never did the induction, I consider that 'no carb'! Its too harsh for me. But I am doing a modified version, basically trying to keep the carbs as low as I can without driving myself crazy and still losing weight. We'll see how it goes.

The other girls would have to answer for themselves, because while we are all trying to eat low carb, each person may be following to a different degree.

You can also do something as simple as No carbs after 4:00PM.
It gives you freedom & you only limit yourself to no-carbs at dinner.
A co-worker of mine is doing it and is seeing results.

Atkins does allow you to eat fruit and it does allow you to eat more than 20 grams per day- you probably didn't get beyond the 1 or 2 week induction phase and wound up doing that the whole time ... that is why you really NEED to read the whole book.

Induction is used to get your body OFF carbs, but if you read the book there is something called 'OWL- ongoing weight loss' where you add other items and more carbs back into your diet.

Any low carb is pretty much a version of Atkins- we are modifying it- the way I do low carb is no carbs (when I'm not being a stinker) but unlimited no carb veggies.

I have no problem eating this way all the time AND in restaurants...

I had an easier time eating out on ATKINS. My problem always came when I was craving something sweet. You are right- I never did get past induction because the way I interpreted the book (which I have read too many times) is that you are supposed to stay in induction for two weeks or until you have lost much of the weight you need to lose. I probably interpreted it differently I was just wondering what you were all doing- Thanks for the insight.

Hey, NO WORRIES... that book is oftentimes hard to understand.

Now there are so many no sugar chocolates- russel stover makes low carb chocolates.. some of them are 1 or 2 carbs each...

So basically you have to make it through two weeks without any carbs other than lo-carb veggies. Then the other lo-carb products and lo-carb fruits can be brought in- I think I am jumping on the lo-carb band wagon (again) starting tomorrow. My E-Party at the end of the month and I really want to lose something by then, since I am heavier than I have ever been

Future FH and I are doing the low-carb but not limiting the number of 'good carb' veggies kind of like Sassyz75.

I did induction for 2 weeks and FH gave up alochol for one whole month to accelerate weight loss. I could never give up my martinis!!!

Good luck
