Low Carb Ideas!

I am looking for ideas on what foods I can eat doing a low carb lifestyle
Also can I have salad dressing on this plan

Re: Low Carb Ideas!

Egg whites
tuna
cottage cheese
most green veggies (stay away from corn and starchy stuff)

Be very careful with salad dressings. Most that claim to be low fat have a lot of sugar in them.

I used Blue Cheese salad dressing...and they sell lots of 0 Carb ones at the supermarket now.

Re: Low Carb Ideas!

there are lots of foods you can eat doing low carb:

eggs
canadian bacon
tuna
chicken
losts of vegetables

I used Blue Cheese or Ranch dressing...just amke sure you use the full fat kinds because the low fat ones are high in carbs. You can also eat lots of different cheeses just limit your intake of them.

Unless you buy special low-carb soups - I haven't really found soup I can have - and I really miss it!!
I bought the low-carb Campbell's soup and it was yuck!

Oh, I eat pretty much the same thing everyday and REALLY enjoy it (not kidding, either)

Eggs (they have those egg beaters, I think its cheddar and chive) with mild italian sausage
cucumbers with dip (sour cream and one of those lipton soup mix packages)
salad with hard boiled egg, luncheon ham and turkey meat, bacon bites, almonds, feta cheese and red wine vinegar with mayo (I know it sounds weird but is a great combo!)
ground chicken or turkey with fried cheese (get shredded cheese. Spray frying pan with Pam, sprinle cheese into a circle flip it when its all bubbly and harder and you have a taco shell)

The best part of the diet: They have low carb pasta (5 grams) that I have with butter and parmesean cheese. Carb options ice cream and hot fudge that I have with whipped cream. And low carb tortillas YUMMY!

p.s. as for salad dressing, ranch is usually a lot lower in calories than the others. Plus oil and vinegar (stay away from balsamic) is always a good choice!

Re: Low Carb Ideas!

You can really eat any meat and cheese you want. Just moderate your intake on fatty meats (bacon, sausage, etc.) Also, cheese does have carbs, but very little carbs. Again stay away from overprocesssed cheeses (american, etc.) feta is good, fresh mozarella, and blue cheese.

As for soups, you are a little limited on these (this is what I missed the most) You can try the low carb soups. Progresso make some and I find them pretty good. Also if you go to a low carb store you will find mixes for loow carb soups. I also have a recipe for low carb clam chowder that is pretty good (if anyone wants the recipe let me know!!!)

Good luck!!

Re: Low Carb Ideas!

Here is what I eat and recommend

Limit your cheese intake. As per Atkins website 4 ounces a day is the maximum intake of cheese.

Drink Green Tea. It comes in many flavors and it helps with weight loss amongst other things. I have been drinking about 3 to 4 cups a day this past week and I feel a lot better.

Watch out for regular Reddi Whip style whipped cream. Yes it is low in carbs but it also contains sugar. If you want to have Whipped cream you will need to make it yourself. Take Heavy Cream, and Splenda, and whip it together....You will have whipped cream.

Goto TJ MAXX, Marshalls, or any low carb store and pick up Divinci's Sugar free Syrups. I use them in coffee, and also tea...They come in many different flavors including, vanilla - chocolate - hazlenut - blueberry -cinnamon - strawberry and many more.

As for fruit, you can have strawberries, blue berries, blackberries, and rasberries....Cut some up and put your home made whipped cream on it.

Stay away from eating onions, carrots, and tomatoes. Try to limit your intake if you are going to eat some of the above. They might stall your weight loss.

As far as meat goes....Do not eat Cold Cuts...They contain Nitrates, and Nitrates Stall weight loss. If you are going to eat cold cuts, make sure they are nitrate free.

Also watch out for hotdogs...unless they are all meat with no additives. They are very high in salt and will help you gain water, and you do not want to do that.

As far as salad dressing goes...You can enjoy all the full fat dressings like blue cheese and ranch. Stay away from low fat dressings and fat free dressings, they have tons of cabs and tons of sugar.

Instead of sugar, sweet and low, and equal, I suggest using Splenda. It will not stall your weight loss and you can even use it for baking.

In your coffee - instead of milk, you can enjoy half and half or heavy cream. Heavy Cream actually has a little less carbs then half and half and tastes better.

Watch your intake of the low carb ice creams, they are known to stall weight loss. If you do eat them, make it a once a week treat and keep it one seving.

Watch out when you are eating low carb chocolate bars, breakfast bars or any type of low carb food....If the item contains Malitol, or Sorbitol, watch what you eat of it....One serving is the max, because if you eat more at one time you will get a stomach ache or worse.....Malitol is a sweetner that makes a lot of people sick. Look for chocolate bars that are flavored by Splenda. There are a few on the market now.

Soda is a big thing. The only soda that the people on lowcarbeating.com recommend is Diet Rite cola, because it contains no sweetners and no carbs....

Make sure you drink half your body weight in water each day...Thats a minimum.

Re: Low Carb Ideas!

Guys, I know you're all gonna hate me for this, but this is all sooooo bad for you!!!!

Carbs are NOT bad things! Yes, some are, but mostly fiber-rich complex carbs are the feul that keeps your body going!!!!!!! Don't cut out carbs, instead eat brown bread instead of white, brown rice instead of white, know the difference between a portion and a heaping plate full of pasta.

You'll do best if you eat a balanced diet of lean protein, quality carbohydrates and fruits and vegetables!

Sorry if I'm preaching, I just worry about people on low-carb diets. A lot of times, they're very misinformed.

Re: Low Carb Ideas!

thanks for the post. Im not misinformed and eating low carb isnt as unhealthy as you think. I eat salad and green veggies, and other foods that have low carbs. I dont eat pure fat all day everyday. I excersize, drink water, and take a multi vitamin. People on low carb are not unhealthy.

Re: Low Carb Ideas!

anytime..I have so much more info...I have been doing a lot of learning over at the lowcarbeating.com forum.

Yesterday I made my own whipped cream with 1 cup heavy cream, 2 table spoons splenda, and 1 tablespoon Davinci Sugar free Vanilla Syrup...and last night I put it on some cut up fresh strawberries...It was so yummy.
