I am from North Carolina and engaged to a guy from LI. I am looking for a place that is not too flashy, more in tune to my upbringing. Also, I cannot believe the prices!! So far we have looked at the Brooklyn botanical gardens, San Souci, and the Swan Club. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Razz31,
So excited about this message board. We are looking at no more than 150 with tax and tip. I am more concerned with finding a that is not too 'glitzy'.

Re: Low Key Wedding
For $150 you can basically go ANYWHERE, thats a lot of money,...what month are you looking for? and do you want one wedding at a time, that narrows it down a lot! For that money, not glitzy, I suggest: Port Jefferson CC ( much less) Watermill ( again MUCH less) Fox hollow Stewart Manor CC( much, much , much less) Riveria Captain bills Meadow Club Miller place CC
All those are low key but fancy and beautiful and larger
Now I hope I dont offend but theplaces I saw as glitzy were Villa Lombardi's Manor East Coral House Sand Castle
All above were nice but too overdone for us, too much bright rugs, bright lights, lots of colors...

Re: Low Key Wedding
I hear you about the glitz. My suggestion would be to try one of the wineries on eastern LI. Raphael Winery in particular is beautiful, and has space for 150+ people. A few people on here are getting married/have gotten married at Raphael. We had our reception at Carlyle on the Green, which one could say is low on glitz, but I don't know that you'd say that it's 'low-key.'

Re: Low Key Wedding
At $150pp, you can basically look anywhere you want. I'm paying $79pp and that INCLUDES tax and gratuity. The Victorian decor at the Meadow Club is definitely my style. What is your style and then go from there.

Thanks, I am definately going to check out the Meadow Club and Port Jeff CC. We thought the Carlyle was more than $150. I forgot to say that we want a Saturday night in May.

A saturday being the most popular night and May the most popular month narrows it down...but just a little, the Meadow Club would fit into that budget, I loved the decor and the food was amazing...The prices I have for Port Jeff Country Club are pre-construction and I know they WILL go up...if you looked now though you could still get the pre-construction rate but you would not know too much about the room.... Good luck!

Where on LI are you looking?
Low on flash but really nice: Danford's (I must say so myself!)north shore, Suffolk Co.,
Land's End: South Shore, Suffok County,
the Main Maid Inn: north shore, nassau county
out east = vineyards.

How many people are you having? You can try out place - Areca. We like it because we think it's elegant but tasteful. They are a vendor on LIW - you can get some more info and some photos. Good luck with your search!

Re: Low Key Wedding
My place, the Southampton Inn, is much more casual looking in comparison to most... very elegant, but not glitzy at all - you can check it out at www.southamptoninn.com. The price for any night, any day of year is $125, and that includes tax and service. I got them to bring it down to $100pp by tweaking the menu. Only drawback is that it's pretty far out on the island.

Re: Low Key Wedding
Hi, I know what you mean about the prices...I lived in Charleston S.C for a while so I sysmpathize with you.
You have many options...since 150 is a great per person price. You can go almost anywhere .. All I can say is try not to get sucked into the wedding mills. Go out and see all the places you can...when you find one that sticks in your head...thats the one

I was thinking Captain Bills also- They have a beautiful facility that is not too glitzy.

Re: Low Key Wedding
I also think East Wind and Miller Place INN are not that glitzy. Then again, I guess everyone has their own opinion of what GLITZY is . . .
Good Luck

Re: Low Key Wedding
If you want a Sat night in May - book now!! They book up fast. $150 is enough for a lot of places but you will not make it into Land's End, Carlyle, Carltun, Oheka (not your style anyway) for that price.
Don't forget that you have to add gratuity. Service charge is not gratuity and the service charge is also taxed at most places (ugh)
You might want to try a country club. Even though you need a member to sponsor it - maybe your FI family knows someone who belongs to a club. You can get great prices, they are not usually glitzy and they have great service. I'm getting married at Southward Ho Country Club. My parent's paid membership dies for 33 years. We might as well get a good deal on the wedding! Your FI fmaily might know someone who can help.

Re: Low Key Wedding
if you want a non-wedding-ish place, try the Hamlet Wind Watch Golf & Country Club. it has more of a country club feel than a catering hall feel.
