I am from North Carolina and engaged to a guy from LI. I am looking for a place that is not too flashy, more in tune to my upbringing. Also, I cannot believe the prices!! So far we have looked at the Brooklyn botanical gardens, San Souci, and the Swan Club. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you want a Sat night in May - book now!! They book up fast. $150 is enough for a lot of places but you will not make it into Land's End, Carlyle, Carltun, Oheka (not your style anyway) for that price.
Don't forget that you have to add gratuity. Service charge is not gratuity and the service charge is also taxed at most places (ugh)
You might want to try a country club. Even though you need a member to sponsor it - maybe your FI family knows someone who belongs to a club. You can get great prices, they are not usually glitzy and they have great service. I'm getting married at Southward Ho Country Club. My parent's paid membership dies for 33 years. We might as well get a good deal on the wedding! Your FI fmaily might know someone who can help.
i was going to say the same thing
southward ho CC is a beautiful place...we have close family friends that offered to do this

Hi and welcome. A good place to help you start might be www.weddingsitesandservices.com. They also sell it in printed form as well. This might help you get a feel for what places offer and a price range. Even though it's one or two pictures it may help give you an idea of what to rule out and what to think about going to see. As the girls said a Saturday in May is prime time but $150 is definitely workable. Good Luck!

I am going for a low key, no glizt and we are doing it at Raphael--took my mom there this weekend and she loved it.....Also the Southampton Inn, and / or Rams Head Inn on Shelter Island, there is another place on Shelter Island that I really liked...can't remember the name, but if you do a 'search' you could find it...OR The Country House in Stony Brook....
Good Luck, can't wait to hear what you decide on!

I was going to say Milleridge. Definitely not 'glitzy' (that's so not my thing either) and you can get it for $150pp incl everything for a Sat night in May. How many people would you be having though - that depends where at Milleridge you'd be able to have it.

I was going to say the same. How many people though? We are having a low key 75-90 people at the Milleridge carriage house. The cottage holds more people, but its still not really glitzty. Also, what area of LI are you looking for?

If you're not into 'glitzy' and 'brassy', look at the Stewart Manor Country Club!!!! (www.stewartmanor.com) We loved it immediately because of the 'country home' feeling. We booked it right ont he spot. We knew we didn't have to look anywhere else. We paid $65 pp. The entire menu is on the website. Pretty gazebo for ceremony or pictures. Weather permitting, tables and chairs are also set up outside for the cocktail hour. Talk with James. He's great to work with and so much help!!
Good luck, Donna 10/5/03

Re: Low Key Wedding
YOu should check out North Ritz Club in Nassau, its centrally located, it's not FLASHY, it's very classy, simple yet elegant, I would highly recommend it. You can check it out online and they have the virtual tour so that you can see the decor, one thing, don't look at the chairs that are in the reception hall because they changed them to the bamboo gold chairs and they look so much better.
