There's an Old English Rhyme most brides-to-be know that goes something like:

' Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, A Sixpence in your Shoe'

It's allegedly supposed to bring good luck to a bride.



Are you superstitious and following this tradition?
If so, what is your something old? new? Borrowed? Blue?





Here's mine:

Olde - My great-great-grandmothers silver lace and blue sapphire antique bracelet.

New - My dress and my shoes. Most of my outfit.

Borrowed - Technically the bracelet as it belongs to my mother.

Blue - Bridal suite of Bayshore offers a free dedication tag on the inside of your dress, with blue embroidery. Mine will have FH's and mine name with our wedding date.

i am doing the something old something new something borrowed something blue. not sure of the sixpence.

old- not sure
new- dress, most jewelry
borrowed- bracelet is plan
blue- shoes!!

Old- I think my grandmothers pearls
New- My Dress
Borrowed-not sure
Blue- My shoes

Old - My grandmothers charm (tied to my bouquet in remembrance)
New - Dress / Shoes / attire
Borrowed - TBD - but I think I am going to my SIL to borrow her white fur Shawl
Blue - FH grandmothers charm will be tied to my bouquet as a remembrance to her

That's a cute way to remember your grandmother. I've been trying to figure out how to remember mine. Hmmmmm

Old - Bracelet
New - Dress/Shoes/earrings
Borrowed - mothers necklace
Blue - Not sure, maybe garter or underwear

Old-A blue plastic bird that my Grandma, who passed away made a decorative bird cage for... I'm going to put that in my bouquet.
New-Dress, accessories, shoes, etc.
Borrowed-Haven't decided yet, probably something from my Mother.
Blue-My garter is blue gingham check (with a little Ruby Slipper on it) & my undies haha

I also have lucky sixpence that my fiance' bought me for my Father to put in my left shoe on our way to the church!

AND my fiance' bought me a piece of a costume worn by Judy Garland that he figured I could sew into the inside of my dress for good luck, since I loooooove Judy Garland!

Haha. I'm going to be at my parents house this weekend. My mom has to get my baptism dress out of the attic. I gotta see this handkerchief for myself!

Old: I'd like to use one of my grandmas brooches on my bouquet but haven't gotten to that point yet. Or my mom's bracelet or earrings.

New: Pretty much everything lol

Borrowed: My 4 older sisters have used the same veil in all of their weddings. Each of them changed it a bit to suit their style. It used to be a very long cathedral veil and I'll be shortening it to fingertip length and maybe adding some light embellishment to compliment my dress. I think it's so cool that we've passed it down the line, it feels very special to me.

Blue: Underwear or possibly a dress tag. I really haven't though much about this one.

I will be doing these, but I really haven't done much thinking about each of them until this moment. Everyone has such great ideas.

Olde: my mom has my grandmother's crystal necklaces that we've talked about me wearing
New: my dress, veil and some jewelry
Borrowed: I'm imagining my mother handing me something the morning of my wedding
Blue: I'm thinking about having a custom tag sewn into my dress with our names and wedding date. Undies sound fun too! lol

Old: Probably a broch for my grandparents & maybe great-grandmother.
New: My dress, shoes, veil
Borrowed: Maybe something from my sister's wedding or a jewelery piece from my mom
Blue: I have a really cool idea - I will be making FH's cousin my something blue by giving her a blue tear drop pendant necklace to wear on my day & she can be my good luck charm. i also found a really nice 'Something Blue' poem on Etsy that I will be giving her. I can't wait!!!!!
