Lurkers

What is the deal with lurkers? Can somebody elaborate on this? It seems to be a concern of everybodys.

its just that this is a public site so you never know who is reading what your saying....friends, family members, creepy stalkers lol. just have to be careful not to give out too much information.

I'm as up-front on here as I am in real life - actually I tone it down a little here because it's hard to gague how things come off on a message board - so if anyone lurked for me they wouldn't be surprised.

I don't give a rat's heiney.

if you don't want people knowing too much then don't share too much... very simple. Then that will avoid stalkers, changing for username and avatar pics 7 trillion times and you can sit easy behind your screen...................

This is pretty much my philosophy. I've written a bunch of stuff about FMIL and FSIL and as far as I'm concerned if they saw it it'd be a load off my back because its stuff that I want to say to them but FH won't let me

Re: Lurkers

I was outed on another message board and the person who stalked me was very malicious and went around harrassing me in real life and even tried to get me fired. Unfortunately I work in a law firm that doesn't like its employees really being so public online so I never really reveal more than what I am comfortable revealing in real life. I'd rather lurk than have complete strangers coming up to me and pretending to be my friend or something. But that's just me.

I don't get it...who would even know where to find you? How do the lurkers know about your relationship with LIW?

Re: Lurkers

i only post things that i would be comfortable speaking with if i was face to face.

my only concern would be that my FH sees my dress. he knows about the site & i told him i would be extremely disappointed if he looked at the pictures of my dress. he said he doesn't want to see it until the day of & i trust him.

No, like people from your life that want to cause drama finding you on here and telling other people what you post

I'm concerned that some people I don't want to invite to my wedding and haven't even told about my engagement might show up!

I don't understand why this web-site is completely public. You should have to register as a user to be able to read everyone's profile, see photos, etc especially since a lot of what we share is so personal.

Just my 2 cents...

Re: Lurkers

somebody had mentioned once that if you google your LIW screenname, your posts will come up (I havent done it). so if your screenname is the same as your email address, some psycho stalker could google you and find your posts.

This is why I don't post pics of myself, write personal information and def. wouldn't use my email address as my user name.

They won't make it private, coz they wouldn't get nearly as much posters...think about it, if you weren't able to read the posts before you joined, would you have joined? I know I wouldn't.

Lurkers ****, definitely but if someone is really worried that they are gonna have a lurker problem then they can either a) do everything they can to make it so that they are unidentifiable here or b) not post anything that the lurkers can use against you.

I have all my info out there for the world to see, but that's because I don't give a flying fcuk

I have a lurker/stalker...apparently named Max Smith. He reads all my stuff and sends emails to FH's family on facebook!!

Just did this and its true!

I personally do not have any personal info on this site because of the buisness i am in. I wish that i could be more open on this site but since its so public, I cant risk losing my job
