MAC review

MAC review

we took e-pics in the city yesterday, so i went to macy's to have my make-up done before we grabbed the train. i generally use lancome mascara, so my first instinct was to see if they would do it, but after reading about so many girls using MAC, i thought i'd give it a whirl...

the girl who did it was stephanie--super nice--and before we started i told her that i was going for something very natural, explaining that i generally wear just mascara and a pinkish white shimmer powder to brighten up my eyes. she was on-board. she did a great job with a natural shadow and using a foundation that was light and looked really natural. then she started applying this 'gel eyeliner' with a brush, saying 'don't worry, i'll keep a thin line,' and she seriously put a quarter-inch-thick black line on my eyes that only seemed to accentuate rather than disguise the asymmetry of my eyes that i explained i was paranoid about. the best part is that she went really light with the mascara, so you could see the gap of eyelid skin between the liner and the lash. i thought it looked ridiculous--all these natural/neutral tones and this think black line with negligible lash. i spent 10 frantic minutes in the car rubbing off the eyeliner with a tissue, covering it with shimmer powder that i bought, and applying more mascara to make myself look normal. she gave me her card in case i want to use her for the wedding not happening.

Sorry to hear aboout the liner snafu...did you ask her to fix it?? I'm sure if she knew you weren't into the thick liner she would have corrected it for you. I work for MAC doing education, and trust me, and mac person would want you to walk away happy.
FM me if you want recommendations, I've worked for them for over 7 years.

That ***** that you had a bad experience. When I think of the makeup artists at MAC I always think of very extreme and loud. I had my makeup done by them a couple of times and I always walked away feeling embarrassed that I was in the mall like that. Maybe it's just because I also only wear just a little bit of makeup and always go for a more natural look.

Sorry to hear of your not so good experience with MAC. I honestly love MAC; maybe it was just the makeup artist. You have your good and bad when it comes to someone applying your makeup.

Re: MAC review

IMHO a MAC makeup artist is going to have a hard time applying 'natural' makeup. They are trained for the fashion makeup look. I had my make-up done there and I also asked for natural and ended up looking like a drag queen.

I am sorry it didn't work out for you! Hopefully your next trial goes better!

I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience! I've heard in the past that the MAC artists sometimes apply makeup with a heavy hand so it's not surprising to me. I'm glad you were able to fix it so that you felt semi-comfortable with your makeup!

Next time go to Bare Minerals ...they do the make up for you as well if you buy products...and it is much lighter and natural!

MAC has a habit of doing this. Even when you say natural many times they go WAAAAY too far. Some ive heard actually listened. But their style is to go very dramatic. Sorry about your experience.

I'm sorry. I was thinking of having someone from MAC do my makeup but sometimes I think they go a little heavy. My skin isn't great so maybe they'll go heavy on the coverup where I need it!! hahaha.

she def would have fixed it, but we had to catch a train to the city to meet our photog, and she would have been forced to remove all the shadow and concealer she'd already put on and start from scratch. there just wasn't time.
