Im not sure about macys, but I think every store is kind of expensive. I didnt realize how much it would be. Mine was like $300 and they really didnt have to do much. Good luck- hope its not too costly.

Re: Macys Alterations
i think it might actually vary. i heard one bride say their macy's capped their alterations, but mine didn't. i went to the one in manhasset. my alterations totalled over $325, or there abouts. the bustle was $150, the hem was $125, and to take in the bust was $50. the only good thing is that the seamstresses work for demetrios, so they know the dresses very very well.

Re: Macys Alterations
My dress was from the Macy's in downtown Chicago, and my alterations were capped at $500. Expensive, i know.
They did a great job though. I ended up needing a lot of alterations done. I think I ended up going back for fittings maybe 3 or 4 times.

Re: Macys Alterations
mine is at smithaven and i know they don't have a cap, but i ordered a size that really was a true fit, so i think i might just need the hem, unless i lose or gain a lot of weight!!

Re: Macys Alterations
i think im going to need A LOT of alterations - im petite and even though they ordered the smallest size the measurements are still 2 inches bigger in my bust, waist and hips - so basically the whole dress is two inches too big on me....plus im really picky about how the way things fit CHA CHING!!

The consultant wouldnt tell me how much the alterations were until I met with the seamtress which was annoying so I think the one in Herald Square doesnt cap either!

I encountered this a lot!!!
They obviously didn't get my business.
I tried on a lot of different style dresses. I wish I could sy that I got my 'dream' dress. I didn't. However I am very very happy with my dress and it won't be a regretful purchase.
I am frugal!

I asked when I bought the dress they said the avg is $500....I got mine at Herald Square and I don't think they cap. Def call where you got it and just ask if the alterations are capped -- that way you know around how much in total you will be spending.

If I had to consider paying 500$ for alterations I wouldn't have been able to feel good about the purchase.
Even though my mom offered to pay for the dress, there is no way I would have spent more than 1000$ on the dress, in total alterations and all.

Re: Macys Alterations
When I was at the Herald Square one, they said there was no cap. Not sure if that's changed since when I went it was over a year ago.
I'm happy I got my Demetrios at another store - they capped at $200 including any bustle, unlimited alterations, etc. They did a fab job too and have been in business for 60 years - well known store in Westchester.

I got mine at Macy's Manhasset, and they told me there isn't a cap. I asked what's the average price range for alterations, and the girl said it usually ranges from about $300 to $600. Obviously there's so many possible different prices for alterations because it really depends on the person, the size and the dress. But this is the ballpark figure they gave me.

Re: Macys Alterations
Herald Square charged me $150 for the hem, $75 bustle and i believe they told $50 to $75 for the chest area. I went to a place in westchester and they were going to charge me the same amount for everything plus an extra $50 for the alter. around the chest. Glad i decided to stick with Macy's.

Re: Macys Alterations
I have a Demetrios dress too with a detachable train! I was curious to see if we had the same dress but when I looked at your dress, its not the same one. Your's is absolutely beautiful too! I love demetrios dresses! I didn't actually ordered my dress through Macy's even though that is where I found the dress -- at the Smithaven Macy's. I didn't order it through them b/c I heard from a number of people that once the dress comes in that the service just goes downhill. I ordered it through Angel's in East Islip. They have a $275 cap if I remeber correctly. If Macy's doesn't cap the price you could always take your dress elsewhere for alterations. My SIL did this with her dress, which she got through David's Bridal.
