They both seem to carry a lot of the same stuff. Did anyone have any good/bad experiences with either one? What do you think guests would prefer?

I'm doing both. They have a lot of the same stuff but the selection also differs in some big categories like the China and the bedding. The benefit of Macys is that its national incase you have a lot of out of town guests but since both stores are online I guess that doesn't really matter. Just an FYI, both stores had the china I wanted but Fortunoff ended up being $45 cheaper per place setting. I was surprised b/c I thought Macy's would be cheaper. My vote is for both lol. I like having more options

I like Macy's b/c we have so many OOT, and FH and I are OOT (no fortunoff where we live!)....also, Macy's told me they will price match on ANY item, as long as you can prove the price elsewhere, including online....and that goes for everything, not just registry!

We chose Macy's just because they have more locations on L.I. We figured that the Fortunoff's in Nassau county wouldn't be convenient for many of our guests living in Suffolk. but otherwise, I think they carry a lot of the same stuff

We are actually registered at both, but are switching everything over to Macys. Macys has a rewards program, when you simply register for items - like your china - you get a free gift from the manufacturer. Fortunoff did not have this, and after you complete your registry you receive another free gift. We decided that since we are going to register for the items anyway we might as well receive the free gifts. For example when we complete our china we receive a free serving platter that matches the set (nice bonus).

I registered at both, but I prefer Fortunoff. For housewares, Fortunoff carries more names. Most at Macys seems to be Martha Stewart.

I also just looked at bed bath and beyond. They have the same china as macy's and fortunoff. At Macy's the china is always on sale, and the sale price at macy's is the same as the reg. price at fortunoff and BBB. But, at BBB, anyone can use the 20% off coupon. I think I will register for some of the same things at Macy's and BBB, and take if off the registry on one when it bought from another.

I would go with Macy's b/c to tell you the truth I don't think I ever stepped foot in a fortunoff. But it's your registry so go with what you feel.

Macys! My mom worked at Fortunoff corporate headquarters and I refuse to register or shop there.
Macys is easier to get to. We are registered at BBB and Macys.

Yeah can be a tough decision....I registered at:
Fortunoff Macy's Bed Bath and Beyond Willion Sonoma
I did all of my registries on line. Didn't have time to got to the store. Gave people options. Macy's and Bed Bath and Beyond are everywhere so it makes it easier for out some. I found my china at Fortunoffs and my flatware at Macys. You don't have to only choose one.
