Might be a dumb question BUT do you pay more to have them hand canceled?
Not dumb at all!!! It's actually a great question!

I did a search for this and couldn't find it under anything.
How long before the wedding do we mail invites? How long before the wedding is the RSVP date?
What does hand cancel at the post office mean?
Thank you bc I know it was asked before but I just can't find it!
you may want to send your invites out 2 months before the day, and have RSVP be 1 month before the day. ;)
2/14/2007 send invites 3/14/2007 rsvp date 4/14/2007 your day!!!!!! :D

Eden's in the ballpark.
They usually say that you should send invites out 6 weeks before the wedding with an RSVP of 3 weeks before the wedding.
However, you can certainly play with those dates JIFF.

Re: Mailing invites and canceling them?
I was told to make the RSVP date 4-6 weeks before the wedding so i made it 5 weeks. I am going to send it out a little over a month before the RSVP date.

You don't pay anything. I went to the Smithtown post office and they did them for me. They were so nice there.

How long before the wedding do we mail invites? We mailed our invites in July for our Sept. wedding How long before the wedding is the RSVP date? RSVP was 30 days before the wedding
What does hand cancel at the post office mean? The post office will stamp each and every envelope by hand w/out it going through the machine. Setauket PO did this for me and none of them were bent/out of shape when they arrived to our guests
Thank you bc I know it was asked before but I just can't find it!

Re: Mailing invites and canceling them?
The invitations will still go through a machine if they are hand cancelled at some point in the delivery process, they just won't go through as many.
If you have a flat invitation, it doesn't hurt to mail them the normal way. We didn't hand cancel ours because the post office told my FH that there no longer is hand cancelling and since he believed them. We have had one response card come back damaged so far but, that didn't happen when the original invitation was sent.
We set our RSVP date 5 weeks before the wedding and we sent our invitations out 2 1/2 months before the wedding for the most part.
