What Exactly does the maitre D do and how much should you tip them

Maitre D makes sure everything goes smoothly at your reception....makes sure all you want done, (garter.bouquet,oparent dances, cake cutting, etc) are done....basically keeps evertying running smoothly...

Our Maitre D was awesome and I cannot say enough good about him...

East WInd recommended 2-3 per head for a tip for him....

but, its your discretion, in the end if you feel he/she was outstanding, you would tip clost to that...if u wre not happy or IMPRESSED with your Maitre D, then I would give less...its all your discretion

I heard 7% of the total food bill (which works out to $1,700 for me)!!!!!

I'm not sure if ours was included in the price. They added and 18% gratuity on and we were just wondering if that included the Maitre D. Not that we are planning to tip him anything. He absolutely sucked!
