maitre d tip

We went in for our final payment today, and our BM told us, for a wedding our size (~190) the maitre d would typically receive a ($900-1200 tip)

She's got to be joking, right?

I know some people tip that but I think its crazy. I would say 2-3$ a person max.

Thats crazy I am probally going to do 2 dollars a head and that would be around 300.00 dolllars

We went in for ours this week as well and for our party (126) we were told between $700-$800, so I guess that is the going rate. I almost fell off my chair as well. But he explained that it gets split among everyone.

Watermill told us 3-5 is typical, but it is not a set amount. You can do more you can do less. Do what you feel is appropriate for how he does that night. He says put what you feel you would like to give and if he does a fantastic job then give a little more and if he doesn't do as much as expected give a little less. This is the way it should be IMO!

my place told us between $3 and $4 per person. over a thousand dollars sounds insane for a tip!

That's absolutely insane. Everyone is already paying a fortune for the hall itself, and then on top of that you have to give 800$ for the maitre d. I will not be giving that, that's insane. I think i'll be just giving 500-550.
