We have 20% gratuituy already added into our RH costs. I just spoke with our attendant and she said the maitre'd tip is not included in that, however we are not required to give anything although most people do.. How much do you think I should give???

Re: maitre-d tipping
Maitre'd tips are never included in the contract. It's suggested that you tip him/her about $2-$4 per guest. So, with 150 guests at around $3 you would tip $450. This is all to your discretion though depending on the service they give.

I know a maitre'd is like a hostess...but what exactly are his/her job responsibilities at your RH?

I really dont know about this. I find it very hard to believe that a Maitre'd, a person who works the hardest, gets nothing from the already included gratuity. What if I left nothing???

I think they pretty much make sure you and the groom like everything and keep everything the way its supposed to be run.

I think they kinda run the show for you at the reception. When food is supposed to be passed out, announcements, taking care of the bride & groom, etc... I may be wrong but it is up to you guys on how much you want to tip.
I honestly feel if they were awesome then they deserve a great tip and if they weren't then a not so great tip.
Just my thought.....

Don't the BMs kind of 'run the show'? My BM said he is going to be there the night of our reception.

$1.50-$3 a head depending on how happy you are with the service. Thats the guide I was given when I had been wondering the same thing...

In addition to the above, the MD also cues the events like the BP entrance, cake cutting, garter toss, etc. I was told to give approx $5 per head.

She's right. Maitre'd gets usually $2-$5 pp. Up to you the amount but that's usually the range. They don't get out of the 20% gratuity in your RH contract. That goes to your servers and bartenders whoever else is on the service staff, but not the maitre'd.

So that wasn't part of the 'administrative gratuity' or whatever they call it?

No your BM and your maitre D are 2 different people. Your BM just makes sure that you are happy with everything and its running on schedule~you may or may not see him at all the night of your wedding. Your maitre D takes care of your guests but for the most part services the B&G. He will bring you over for dinner, cake cutting, make sure that you have everything you need, make sure food is moving the way its supposed to etc.
The normal tip is $3-$5 per person that you invite~it is very much up to you

No...that went to the busboys, waiters, valets, etc. I gave the Maitre'd an extra $700 on top of that...actually I think my BIL gave it directly to Gerard or Mike and they gave it to him.
