MAJOR Bride's Maid Dilema! HELP!

Original post by KellyS15

After I got engaged I asked a very good friend of mine of many years to be one of my bride's maids. She graciously accpeted. A few months later, she informed me that she was getting 2 dread locks in her hair. Never thinking she would ever do her whole head, I said 'If you ever do your whole head, I cannot have you in my wedding.' Well, here we are two months later and she is doing her whole head. She called me and told me that I have to make a decision because she is definitely doing it. I don't want to seem superficial, because her friendship means so much to me. She says she will not be hurt or offended, but I still dont want to make that decision. I just have this dream of what my wedding would be like and this just doesn't fit in. Am I being selfish?

first of all, a heed of warning...if you think she will not have them next october you are most likely mistaken. dreadlocks are a time proccess. they are not just a hairdo you decide to get and then get rid of after a few months. Being a fellow dreadhead and being a BM in my friend's wedding this coming weekend, I would obviously tell you not to rethink your decision to have her in the wedding. If her dreads are long enough to be put up, you will barely notice them in photos and dreads can look beautiful in updos. when my friend asked me to be in her wedding party, i did ask her about my dreads and she said it wasn't an issue for her at all. i do feel a little self conscious about how my dreads are going to look this weekend (because of people like you *ahem*) but they are part of me and my everyday existence and they reflect my personality and who i am...and my friend likes me for who i am. besides, what if your friend ended up getting a really hideous updo??? would you renag your invitation for her to be in the wedding day of??? think about what really matters.

If your friend is good enough to understand that you may re-think having her in your wedding b/c of the dreds (as opposed to flipping out/screaming at you/etc), it sounds like you have a GREAT friend! Someone completely unselfish who cares a lot about you!

It would be a shame to not have her share such a special day with you IMO

I wouldn't care at all-but my family would definetly give me heat about it.
