Major Predicament that is causing huge fight with FH....

What would you do? This is causing a huge fight with us (and we don't ever fight).

Short story is, my dad has a 'tie guy' that is willing to order ties for the groomsmen from Italy and they won't cost us anything. Problem is, I went through ALL the swatches and since he's working on Fall/Winter 2010-2011 already, everything is dark and not summer-ish. I found maybe 2 patterns I thought I could live with but after going to Bloomies and finding so many great ones, I don't want to settle with the free ones.

FH want to settle on ties because they are free--even though I don't like any of them.

And, my bridesmaid dresses are navy...the ties I 'like' are checkered with blue and the other one is dark pink and grey.

My wedding colors were going to be a light pink and navy....

sorry but I am kind of w/ur FH on this one. $500-$600 bucks is a lot of money on something that most ppl wont notice that much
that blue one sounds like it can work

maybe u can find cheaper ties and have a compromise w/ur FH? not to spend so much and get exactly the shade of tie u want?

Is there somewhere you can find ones you like that won't total up to that high? What about Macy's or JCPenny's. They have huge selections and I am sure would be cheaper than Bloomies.

ETA: Otherwise I'd go with the free one's... sorry, but I know in my situation 500-600 could go a long way further than ties

ita.... also, since your dad knows this guy maybe he can ask him if you could pick from the spring/summer line? doesnt hurt to ask

Does he have any ties from the Spring/Summer season prior to the Fall/Winter '10/'11?

If not, I'd either just go along with the free ones or try to find comparable ones for cheaper.

$500 - $600 is a lot to spend.

ITA ... $500 is a lot of money (that's a week's pay for a lot of people!) .... maybe your dad be willing to buy the ties from a diff place?

Unfortunately the summer ties came and went and we would have had to order them last fall....

I understand and agree that saving $$$ is huge--I'm having trouble with the idea of darker ties at my wedding when I envisioned fun summer ones....and we DID budget for groomsmen gifts and this IS the groomsmen gifts....

I think I'm calling the guy and will see if he has more stuff to look at because although its $$, I'm just having trouble settling and something I don't like.....

Thanks for opinions, need to work more and try to not let this stress so much (wish FH would go to guy and make selection of ties instead of me )

I would only go with the free ties if there is something you really like, but I wouldn't settle. Bloomingdale's is having a friends and family event this week and I can email you a coupon code, unless you already have one, for like 20% off or something. If you open a charge account, you get an additional discount. This is what we did and were able to get 135$ burberry ties for $80 ea. . . . also, we have the same wedding colors!! GL!

Ha--I already have lots of stuff held there til Wednesday that I bought yesterday from FF. That's why I thought it would be perfect to buy from there! WE LOVED the Burberry ties in blue but $80 x 8 groomsmen = unhappy FH

Well there ya go. Just tell him that since a) it's the GM gifts and b) you've probably done a lot of research on wedding stuff, not to mention you need to get BM gifts and sit through hair and make-up trials and stuff like that, he should just do this.

But then you can't get angry with him in regard to his decision.

No one looks at the men in weddings anyway

Ha true. At least when people comment on them and say 'interesting choice for July' I will say this was FH's contribution to wedding.

you can find ones that aren't going to cost you $500-600.

if you're looking for a specific patterned tie. i wouldn't settle. people WILL notice. people = you. in your pictures. forever.

find something that works for you. try to not spend $500, please. that's just silly.

Agreed, I are trying to find something less expensive that I like and explain to him why I want it more than the free ones.

Reason we have to buy all the ties are they are the groomsmen's gifts and since we have 7 groomsmen + groom, ends up being 8 ties....

I dont think you should settle, plus if it is their gift you would spend that anyway.

Think about the photos! The ties need to look good!
