Majority of music at Reception ...

Majority of music at Reception ...

Me and FI really favor house music ...
the way he looks at it is it is our day and our wedding so why listen to music we dont like
...i am thinking maybe to try to get alot of older songs house remixes so that at least the older guest will recognize the songs ...
but he def wants a majority of the music to be house ...

but we do plan on having
some linkin park ...
maybe 1 or 2 songs of each
DMD ...Phil collins ,journey ,frank sinatra ...
a little r & b ... and a few 80's

anyone think this is rude
and not mixing it up enuff?

hmm, how old is your crowd? if you got a majority that are in their 50's - 70's, you may want to add some oldies, like doowop an dmotown. jmo. it is hard to satisfy everyone.

My parents were really concerned about this too. I think you should probably talk with your DJ--you can tell him and her what kind of music you really like and they can suggest what you might want to play throughout the night to keep everyone dancing. Or, tell him to start off with your music and if it doesn't seem to be working out (ie, if people aren't dancing) then he can mix it up.

good luck...we've requested about half of the must play songs and we're leaving the rest up to the DJ

Hmm - I may be in the minority here but I don't feel it is just my day (or our day). I think it is also my parent's day. I owe them a lot and want the wedding to be something they are proud of as well. They are paying for the wedding but regardless of that - it is important to me that they also love the music. I truly feel music can make or break a wedding.

They are inviting a lot more people than I am and I know my friends will dance to older music but know my parent's friends will not dance to a lot of contemporary things.
I really think you should have a mix. I recently went to a wedding of 240 people and they played lots of current stuff. The same 8 people danced. They had a great time and everyone else left early (and with headaches)
The bride cried the entire night because the DJ was playig music for 8 people and not for the crowd in general (or the bride)

I think there should be a decent mix of music so everyone enjoys themselves. Of course have the band/dj play what you and FH like, but you will want to see everyone up and dancing.

It is your wedding, and you should have the music you like, but you should take your guests tastes into consideration if you want people to have a good time.
Depending on your crowd, it would be nice to have a mix, IMO.

yeah..as much as i love house and what not...you must entertain your guest (what are ya, a married couple ) yeah..just throw a little bit of everything in, and you will be good.

We are having a little bit of everything to try and please everyone. I want everyone to enjoy themselves. We are going to play more of the house music later on in the evening when mostly likely either the older guests will have left or they are chatting away...

I love house music but honestly not so sure it is a great idea for the majority of the music to be house.

Honestly I was at a wedding recently where I LOVED the music lots of dance stuff but 75% of their guests were 40 and over and NO ONE was dancing EXCEPT for the bride and grooms cousin's, and bridal party. Everyone else was sitting at the tables looking bored.

What about if you play a mix of music early on and after cake cutting spend the end of the wedding playing the house music you like best - many older guests leave by that time and then you can really party and not worry about it.

Tina

I feel you on this one 100% but you have to do alot more of mixing the music for the guests...

THis is what we are doing and we are also having an hr hrs party for our PARTY People friends....

But then again my 2nd wedding song is my Luz..

GO FIGURE!

I would vote against having too much house. I personally like it, and I agree it's your wedding you should have what you like, but people will defintely be offended. It may not be the right attitude, but a lot of people feel that they are your guests and should be entertained. You must take everyone into consideration, it's your responsibilty as the hostess.

I like the idea of playing a little more of it later on. Or can you pic just 5-6 songs to play that you must hear, and then let the DJ play a 'set' of house w/ the songs you picked? Thats what I plan on doing. Having 'sets' of different genres' of music.

i might have my friend with a great voice sing in your eyes ...or depeche mode enjoy the silence (i love the words)
we are def going to do an afternhours thing
..we might have the limo take us to the city or to the hamptons depending on whats going on that night ...

honestly i am going to have a huge dress on at my wedding and im not goona be able to really dance anyway so the more i think about that the more i get confused

im thinking about playing alot of 80 's songs
since the majoity of people are goona be my parents age (40's ) or in there 20 's and 30's
so mostly everyone enjoys that

I had the same thinking as you.

I LOVE like hip hop, but unfortunately you cannot play too much of that at your wedding.

I had all types of music at my wedding-

Hip hop, R&B, Salsa, Merengue, disco, reggae, socca, calyspo- It was a blast!!!

You really have to take your guests into consideration, because if they are not dancing your wedding pretty much SUX.

this is what i am looking to avoid and why we elected to go with a jazz, swing, funky R&B band. i want the old farts to dance. young and old should be dancing to this band...

Re: Majority of music at Reception ...

FH & I were just burning a CD of songs for the wedding. There will be a good mix of song genres however most of the dance music is going to be a flashback to my HS days when I LOVED to dance. So people better be able to deal with New Order, Dead or Alive, Adam Ant, Culture Club, Erasure so on and so on. I wanna dance like a teenager again with my HS girlfriends all together!
