make-up counter...

Ive never gone to one and had make up put on... what am I missing? Do they pressure you into buying a whole slew of their products at the end? Do they do a good job? DO you have to make an appointment?

you don't have to make an appointment, but sometimes it helps. You can certainly just go check out various counters and ask for a makeup application at one that interests you. I enjoy having it done, especially for special occasions.

Generally, they'll give you a list of everything she put on you (so you have it for reference) and ask if there's anything you're interested in purchasing.

There's no pressure to buy, but after spending an hour doing my makeup for free and explaining things to me, I figure picking up a lipstick or something she used that interests me is worth it.

mind you - all places are different. The experience above was with Bobbi Brown. My sister went to a MAC counter for her prom and they did her makeup but she had to spend $X on makeup (I think it was $25 or $50 - it may have been a prom thing, cause I think they do it for free too)
