Make-Up Prices Vent

Is it just me or is anyone else outraged at the prices they charge for trials and day of for makeup? I mean seriously $200 for makeup (which doesn't include the trial, which is like another $75-$125)?? Some of them charge just as much as the hairstylist. Then I love how the price goes up if it is just the bride and noone else. I get it they have to travel and its more profitable if they book more people, but come on!! Okay vent over

The girl I am using charges $30 for the trial and $125 day of. Each BM is $55. FM me if you want her information.

Also...I wanted to add that you travel to her for a trial but she comes to you the day of.

I have pics in my album of my trial. For the day of I am going to go less pink on the cheeks and eyes. I really liked my trial but the more I look at the pics the more I want to go bronze. But I think she did a great job.

200 bucks is crazy to pay someone to put some makeup on you

I was thinking the same thing. The cheapest i found was $55 for the trial but the day of was $200 and the trial cost dos not get credited towards the day of make up. Its insane what they charge.

I agree. I had one hair person tell me she would charge me $25 extra per girl to travel to me from one town over. I told her 'sorry but I'm not giving you $125 to drive for 5 minutes).
For my make-up I found someone, $35 for the trial, $85 the day of. Hair person I found is $125 for me (charged me $50 for trial) and between $60-$75 for the girls depending on how they want their hair.
If you look hard enough you can def find people with more reasonable prices.

really i think the prices have gotten out of hand!!! I know it takes time and its important how your face looks and all but man do we really have to dish out up to $400 for hair and makeup, not to mention that almost all trials cost a lot too.

I think long island has gotten insane...

Honestly I am not outraged at all. I was willing to pay $$ for a great makeup artist! I wanted to look flawless and amazing on my wedding day. My makeup artist charged $200 for day-of and $75 for her trials (I had 2). It was worth every penny. I used a different person for my b-pics, which although the makeup photographed AMAZINGLY well, I looked like a tranny in person. Very very fake. Not wedding glow makeup. That woman charged $100 for makeup. I didn't just want to look good in pictures on my wedding day. I wanted to look great in person, and that's what I felt I paid for with Chante. Just as a side note, I used to work in retail cosmetics as a makeup artist when I first started out in retail, and actually worked as a freelance makeup artist for a few years to make money. I used to get $75-$100 for a bride when I was 18-20 years old (I had 3 years of Estee Lauder schools 2-3 x a year with my high school job Origins) and this was 7 years ago! So I guess it just doesn't sound so crazy to me. I think you can definitely get good makeup applications for cheaper, and there's no shame in it. It all comes down to what's important to you and what you're willing to pay for. The overwhelming majority of responses to this post think $200 is a lot for day-of makeup, so I guess I'm the minority here, but it's how I feel!

I do think that prices are very high, but I will say the people charging so much are very talented and always do a terrific job.

$200 is a lot for makeup. My sister got married last year in Brooklyn at a great salon and it cost her $75 for day of makeup and $125 for hair. I can't imagine just paying $200 for makeup. She looked great. I had to pay $50 for day of makeup and $100 for hair as her MOH.

I COULDNT AGREE MORE WITH YOU! I dont mean it offensive to anyone but the way you look the day of should be of your highest priority. ALL EYES ON YOU, do you want to people to say o she looked nice. OR do you want to BLOW PEOPLE AWAY?! And like Allegra said, makeup can photograph well and LOOK HORRIBLE in person! I know cause I went through 2 TERRIBLE TERRIBLE trials that left me in TEARS and frustrated that I wasnt going to find someone... A makeup artist is JUST THAT an ARTIST... What they do, their level of talent is UNBELIEVABLE when you go to someone who knows what they are doing. They can make medusa LOOK FLAWLESS! lol
For me I was willing to pay to get a GREAT artist who can give me what I want and I guess Im in the minority as well... Im someone who has always been into makeup and I REALLY respect what they do...

Same goes for hair stylists... I mean its your wedding day again you should blow people away, your hair should last all day/night and it should look AMAZING! This is the ONE DAY that YOU should feel YOU ARE AT YOUR BEST! It IS all about you... ALL eyes ON you...

This is just my opinion and Im DEF not trying to offend anyone, I understand we are ALL on budgets, but this was one thing from the getgo I decided and told FH I WILL NOT be put on a budget for this.

Re: Make-Up Prices Vent

I just wanted to clarify that I don't think that $200 for makeup is cheap by any means. I think it's a good amount of money! I'd be pissed to lose that much or waste that much on something. However I was willing to spend that much for a service I wanted. That being said, I don't think it's crazy by any means for someone to charge $200 for bridal day of makeup and $75 for a trial. Especially when my artist came to me. With the cost of gas these days, plus their time and materials (lashes mainly) and $75 really isn't that much.
