Make Up (vent)

Make Up (vent)

A week or so ago I called Jaqueline Nicole about doing my make up for my wedding. She said she did NOT have anything booked for that day.

We set up an appointment for this evening, the earliest mutual date available for both of us.

This morning while I was at work my cell phone rang and it was her telling me she booked my date last night and that I didn't need to come for my trial tonight!

I said that I thought I had that date, to which she replied, 'You didn't give me $100 to hold the date!' She never even mentioned I NEEDED to give a deposit to hold the date! She had emailed me for the time I needed her, and I never received a reply to the info I gave her.

I guess she got a better deal than doing just my make up, however I think it is extremely UNPROFESSIONAL for a vendor to not tell someone that they need to give $100 to hold a date then give the date away! Can you imagine if your hairdresser did this to you? Your doctor?

She may be a wonderful make up artist, but if this is the way she does business, then I would rather spend my hard earned dollar on someone who takes her potential clients seriously. I understand she is in business, however so am I, and I would never do that to one of my patients.

Re: Make Up (vent)

I had a similar situation just a couple of days ago with her. (weird) I called her last week about my date, and she was available, and I said I definitely want to do a trial with her for when I come up in July to NY... (I live in NC) She said that was fine, so a couple of days ago she left a message saying that she was having a bride come in last night for a trial who has the same date as me, and she was booking her, so basically she's not available all of a sudden unless the times are different for our weddings. Anyway, I've never heard of having to give the money at that moment to book a Hair/Makeup person. I have Pauline booked for my wedding since last summer, without having to give her any money, and I have a trial with her in July. I was interested in Jacqueline Nicole in case Pauline didn't work out. I didn't want to get stuck for some reason. (I doubt I will, but you never know!) But yeah, it's messed up. You can find someone else! Good luck!

I am so sorry to hear that. As a matter of fact, I was supposed to have a trial with her yesterday, but since I am coordinating it with my engagment pictures and it rained, we rescheduled it for tomorrow, but now I see it will rain tomorrow also, so we are rescheduling for next week. I hope she doesn't book my date between now and then.

As far as what happened to you guys, I kind of see where she's coming from. It's like a first come first serve thing. You can't expect her to not book someone else who wants her when she doesn't even know if you will book her since you hadn't even had a trial yet. Why would she pass up one job 'just in case' she gets another. She's just going with the sure thing. Don't get me wrong, i'd be upset too, but I would understand that it is business.

I'm sorry that that happened to you guys though and I do hope that you have luck finding someone else. Also, try to remember, there's no point in getting upset over the stuff you can't control, or more so, the stuff that isn't important.

I agree - very unprofessional. I can understand her desire to win business but she should AT LEAST explain her business practices to you.

That really stinks but maybe it is a blessing in diguise and you will get someone who is more reliable. Good luck with your search.

I had the same experience with Jacqueline Nicole, we had scheduled a trial appt. I called to get directions and she was not home, she scheduled me at 7:00 and I had a 4:30 appt. I called her 2 times to reschedule and she left a message saying said oh I booked you wedding date, sorry. She did refer me to someone else, so i will let you know how it goes. I was very interested in the airbrush application and this other woman does it as well.

Re: Make Up (vent)

I can understand not just 'holding a date' in case someone decided to book you, but i think she should have at least called you and said 'i have another client interested in that date, and just wanted to confirm with you whether you would like to book it definitely'. There are alot of makeup artists out there. I always read about the same 3 or so on this site. I'm a sales rep for salon products, so I'm in different salons all week long, and I see lots of makeup artists. I already know who I'm using for my wedding in May. I can give you several girls names in the huntington area who travel if you're interested.

Re: Make Up (vent)

That is not right at all, whether or not its business, the right thing to do should have been to tell both brides that whoever called her and gave her the deposit first would be the one to get the date. Business is business but there is a right way and a wrong way to treat people. When I went to see our photographer, she told me that she had another person who is interested in booking our date, she said its whoever calls her and sends the money first that will be who gets the date.

I hope you find someone else.

Re: Make Up (vent)

Thanks for making me feel better! I now see this is her standard mode of operation. I know business is business, but there is a right way and a wrong way of doing business, in my opinion. Seems the first person to call and set up a trial for a date should get first dibs.

I am sure I will find someone else. Brooke, if you can email me some of the names you offered I would greatly appreciate it. [email protected].

I am also considering Nubest in Manhasset. Has anyone had any trials there? They are down the street from me, so it is convenient.

Thanks again,
Diana

Sorry to hear about that. This girl sounds like she does this all the time. Poor work ethic. Anyway, here is a great reliable make-up and hair stylist that I am booked for my wedding. She will come to you. Her name is Bessie of 'Beautiful Girls' her # is 718-707-1089. Good Luck!

Try Jackie from IMakeup You. She does wonderful work and you will not be disappointed. I used her for my wedding last September and was thrilled with the way my makeup came out.

Re: Make Up (vent)

Brooke-

Would you mind sending me the information too?

My Future in-law aunt said she had someone for me but with less than a month to go she said since I will be getting ready with my family in Woodbury (from Glen Cove) that the woman wouldn't be able to make it...

I am not from the area at all, I grew and currently live in Buffalo, NY...I don't know of anyone down there. :)

My email is [email protected]

Thanks-
Nancy

Nancy...I am originally from N. Tonawanda! I have a large number of guests coming from the Buffalo area. Hope you have a beautiful day

Diana

What a small world... when Chris first moved up here, we lived in the city of Tonawanda. We then moved to South Cheektowaga and now just moved in to our house in North Cheektowaga!!!

I like Long Island and honestly if it weren't for the high real estate, we would have moved there.

Thanks for the wishes...it is coming up so quickly. :)

Best wishes-
Nancy
