I have always beenallergic to eye shadows, especially those with red dye in them (pink, plum, etc). And sometimes a certain eye shadow will be fine for months until I suddenly develop an allergy to it. Recently, I developed an allergy to a plum-colored eye liner!! It's really bad because I have multi-colored eyes with a lot of green in them, and plum colors bring out the green in my eyes, and so I know that when I have my makeup done for my wedding, plum colors will be suggested and I'll be allergic!! I've tried Clinique hypoallergenic eye shadows and it's the same deal. I've tried other hypoallergenic makeups as well and they never seem to do the trick. I really want to be able to wear eye shadow at my wedding!! Any suggestions or tips??
Oh, I've also tried using eye shadow foundation underneath so as to lessen the exposure of eye shadow touching my eyelids and that didn't help either.

It drives me crazy too....
I have the same problem. I use neutrogena mascara and Bobbi Brown eye makeup.
Try that..see how it works.

Oh wow really?? Does Bobbi Brown work for you???
(It's awful, isn't it?? My eyelids turn pink and get really itchy and painful, and then a couple days later the skin gets dry and flaky... ughhh horrible)

Re: makeup allergies
well first, u mentioned 'i could be fine for months and then develop an allergy'...i will say that if u're highly sensitve to shadows - do NOT keep them for this long..any eye product unless it's 100% natural should be tossed after 3-6months because of the bacteria/experation...this goes for people that don't even have an allergy. Even if the product doesn't actually expire, if it's not 100% natural they will hold major bacteria that'll fester inside leading to infections & reactions..hence tossing them away. Have u tried mineral makeup yet?? I would definetly atleast give it a try..it's 100% natural with ZERO additives. I'm actually the lead artist/trainer for the Bare Escentuals in Queens so if u have any questions feel free to ask! I will say be careful with trying 'mineral makeup' by regular lines(ie: maybelline, covergirl, even mac now are coming out with a 'mineral line'..however notice that it doesn't say 100% natural - 'cause it's not! they add minerals to the product calling it mineral makeup but unless it says 100% on the packaging - it's not!) ANYWAYS, definetly worth a shot! again, any questions let me know!

Re: makeup allergies
Awesome, thanks a lot!!
And yes- I had heard that about bacteria and it makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately, right now I seem to be allergic to all eye shadows the first time I use them... but I may be allergic to the additives so perhaps 100% mineral makeup makes sense...
I will have to try both your suggestions!! Thanks so much!!

Re: makeup allergies
I just thought I'd give you all an update...
I happened to be in Sephora tonight and I saw Bare Minerals by Bare Escentuals and picked up an eye shadow (100% minerals, no additives ) so I'll let you know how it goes!!!

Re: makeup allergies
So I just bought a darker Bare Escentuals eye shadow and wore it several days ago, washed it off that night, and the next morning my eyes were EXTREMELY bloodshot. I didn't wear it again for a few days, then I wore it for about 6-7 hours last night, and this morning my eyes are bloodshot again (although not AS bloodshot as last time, but I did not wear it for as long as I did last time). Perhaps there are traces of past eye shadows (from yrs ago) on the brush I am using so I will sterilize it. If that doesn't work, does Bobbi Brown really work for someone with such horrible eye shadow allergies?? I thought that if anything would work it would be Bare Escentuals' 100% mineral makeup.

Re: makeup allergies
nvm, Just read your recent post.
You tried everything I have suggested.
No one at the makeup counters can offer any advice?

Re: makeup allergies
The girls at the counter at Bare Escentuals just said their makeup should do the trick since it is 100% minerals, which seemed to make sense... but hmmmm I'm still having a reaction.
I have not tried Bobbi Brown yet though. I have a lot of green in my eyes so I really need a plum color but I seem to be most sensitive to this!! Did anyone with eyeshadow allergies try any plum-colored shadows and not have a reaction??
