I am supposed to have a friend (who is also a makeup artist) do my wedding day makeup. (I know, probably a bad idea). She has refused to take money for the service, and so I have no guarantee she will be showing.
We have already had our trial. Now it's a week before the wedding, and I have been unable to get in touch with her. I have reasons to believe she may not show up. (Or so it seems in my insane bride mind.)
The last time I talked to her, she expressed concerns about transportation to and from the reception. I offered to pay for her car, but she refused again.
So, here's my question:
I am thinking of trying to hire someone else. (I don;'t know if it's possible....?) And doing a new trial and booking him or her for the day. If I end up with two make-up artists, can I ask the paid pro to do my bridesmaids or mother instead (of course willing to pay the difference)???? FH, who has a lot of salon experience, says no. He says they will be insulted and treat me badly if I ask that. He says I should just call up and fire my friend over voicemail when I hire someone else.
I don't want to do this! Help! Please!

I would call your friend one more time and say 'I understand if u can't come this weekend - but u need to tell me. If i dont hear from you by tonight I'm hiring someone else.' - give her the day(or even give her a time(ie: 'if i dont hear from u by 3:00') if u dont want another day to pass by), ...THEN give her the boot. It's not a bad thing if u give her some sort of a warning....she's the one who's not communicating with you... you do NOT want to be stuck on your wedding day. no need for that stress. u want to feel the most beautiful u've ever felt with no worries. i'm sorry ur dealing with this...especially that it's a friend

So you don't think I should hire a back-up? We are even afraid at this point that even if she says she is coming, she may not make it.

honestly i wouldn't hire a 'backup'....HIRE SOMEONE. If she does happen to call be very nice, dont make it a HUGE deal, and just say 'I'm sorry - but this is MY WEDDING. I've been trying to get in touch with you & i just haven't heard back from you so I had to hire someone else.' the less of a deal you make out to be, the less of a deal she'll take it as. But honestly, u dont need to worry about stuff like this. MAKEUP IS A BIG DEAL! it's how u're going to look!

Definetly call her & leave a message though...just so she doesn't show up to ur house the morning of all confused lol. Call & if she doesn't pick up just tell her in a message.

I guess you're right. I really just didn't want to do that. I was trying to figure out a way around replacing her. It's just not a fun thing.

a week is def. too long in trying to get in touch with someone and having them not get back to you. Especially if it's a 'friend' then that's pretty insulting knowing that this is one of the most important days of your life to do this to you, and make you worried like that.
Not to burn bridges, I would def. hire someone and tell her that since you haven't heard from her you were afraid she wasn't going to show. Def. start looking for someone NOW. Post your concerns on Vendors helping brides and hopefully someone will get back to you...

My make up person might be available if you want to use her. She is in New Hyde Park, and you can go to her house for a trial. She is very sweet and I think she did a fantastic job on my mom, me, and one of my bridesmaids. She does both airbrush and traditional and her prices are ballpark. You can find her at http://www.karenmakeup.com if it doesn't work out with your person. I hope this helps and that she can help you out! She does the eyelashes and everything and she had every color.

I agree with all of the above. I'm sorry this is happening to you.
I used Sachiko Yanase. She did makeup and hair for me, MOG, and MOB and hair only for most of my BMs. We were all very happy with her work. FM me for more info.
