I'm going for a makeup trial next week. What am I supposed to tell the woman I want, when I don't really know? Am I supposed to show her a picture? Does anyone have pics to give me ideas? I want to look better than my normal self, more classic, maybe more dramatic...

Re: Makeup question
I showed her a picture how I normally wear my make up and then she did my trial.
Then a few weeks before my wedding she did another trial for me.

Re: Makeup question
I have a few pictures, but here's a great link for you to get an idea of what kind of look you want: Makeup Bio from The Knot
ETA: I should mention that the 4th pic is our very own MelTodd--what a beautiful bride!!
No I didnt want to bring ANY pictures b/c I feel that a good cosmetician can pick the beauty of your own face and work with colors that bring out your best features and coloring. I went today to Elizabeth Drucker skin care salon and she did both me and my mom and they came out GREAT!! I dont have pics but I had a previous trial with someone popular on her and hated it. Elizabeth did an amazing job all I told her is a natural look and she worked with tones of my color and my lip she made up a pink/burgundy tone to match my BM dresses she did awesome. My mom is a facial well was lol( when she was younger) model and when she did my mom she looked exactly how the prof in manhattan use to do it. Our eyes came out awesome. I wish i could do this myself!!

Re: Makeup question
When I went for mine, I told her: 'honestly, I have no clue what I want.' I really didn't have any idea. So, she picked out what colors went best with my skin tone and took it from there and she did an amazing job!

Re: Makeup question
I have to disagree with not bringing pictures. even if they are photos of what you DON'T want, having pictures to kinda explain things you like and don't like really seems to work. the make-up artist should be able to tell you what works for you and doesn't out of the selection you bring. and the process of collaborating on the make-up starts with your ideas. article on bridal make-up
Someone also suggested to me that you wear a white shirt so you would get an idea of what you'd look like against your white dress. I know it sounds silly, but one of my friends suggested it. I haven't tried it yet to see if it really shows any difference.

Re: Makeup question
are you getting black and white? Denise told me to make sure the makeup artist knows so she can play up the drama for the b&W photos.

This is true - I had on a TON of makeup but it looks like I have very little on in the B&Ws. (But it looked good! ) Even in the color photos my makeup doesn't look overdone.
I wore a white shirt on the day of the trial and it helped. I realized that the neutral browns that she used on me just didn't look right. I have fair skin and next to a white gown I looked even fairer, so the browns were a little too much. I went with plums on the wedding day and it looked great.

Re: Makeup question
I felt like this when I first went on trials where I didn't know what to ask for. After a few trials, I knew exactly what I did want and what I didn't want. Let the makeup artist know what colors you normally like to wear on your face and what you feel comfortable with. Let her know if you want a natural or dramatic look or somewhere in between. Eyes can be the biggest problem since after awhile, I knew to say I don't want a lot of dark eyeliner because it makes my eyes look smaller. Finally on my last two trials, the artists made my eyes stand out.
