I'm going for my makeup trial next week and I just wanted to know do you tip the person? The trial itself is not cheap and she's doing it in her home. TIA

Re: Makeup trials - Tip or not
I just posted on the 05 board about this. I went for a makeup trial in her home and i tipped. I went for a hair trial in a salon and i tipped. Now i am going for another hair trial in a home, I am 2nd guessing the tipping. I agree that it is very expensive for these trials and if we are going to the homes of these vendors, then do we really have to tip on top of the fee for the trial? I am starting to lean towards no

I think if the vendor is a sole practitioner than tipping is less required since they are pocketing the cost of what you pay anyway. I did not tip for any of my hair or makeup trials because of this theory.

So you didnt tip at all? I think even if its the owner and you go there you should tip even if its 5 10 bucks. They have overhead and also if they come to you- they are using gas- I know your probably saying but they are charging ex amount of money but thats what they charge anyhow not that they are making money off of you. I dont know I dont think its right not to tip when services are given.

The vendors I used for these services do not have store, so they have minimal overhead. I did tip the day of the wedding -- just not at the trials.

Re: Makeup trials - Tip or not
I went on 10 different makeup trials...Some I tipped and others I did not...If the trial was free then usually I tipped about $20-$30...If I paid for the trial then sometimes I tipped and other times I did not...All of these people were self employed and the money was going straight to them anyway...Also, I don't think it is necessary to tip when a makeup trial costs $75 (which is what some of mine cost)...

I feel the same way -- I am not tipping. If it were at a salon I would, but not if they are doing it at their home and pocketing all the money.

Re: Makeup trials - Tip or not
Whether its the wedding day or a trial the person is doing the same work and using their time - this is their job. I'd ALWAYS tip! It does get expensive when you add it all up and consider all of the wedding costs but realize its their job and day of or trial, they are doing the same thing and deserve the same tip.

Re: Makeup trials - Tip or not
I went to both my hair and makeup trial and I didn't tip, although I feel like in both instances I was not happy, my make up trial was rushed through b/c she had another bride wating and hair stylist she just did not achive a look I was going for
