When I call a vendor to cancel an appointment they ask why and I tell them I've found someone else they ask who. I dont think I have to tell them do I?? I think its rude to ask. I find myself making excuses so I dont have to hear bad things about my booked vendor or such. It just turns me off SO badly.

Re: Making Excuses
I HATE that! I actually have to cancel an appointment with a florist I have NO intention on using! She literally PUSHED me into this appointment in the first place! I've been avoiding cancelling because I don't want to deal with those freaking questions all the time!

Re: Making Excuses
I hated when they did this to me.
When I booked my photographer one of the 800 other photographers that kept calling me asked who I booked with, when I told her, the b**** on the other end says 'oh, well good luck you'll need it'.

Re: Making Excuses
If you read my post about a certain DJ, you will know that this happened to me. I was so upset. When I mentioned which DJ I booked, they said I never heard of them, they probably are just taking your money. I know that that statement was not true because Chippa knows the DJ I booked for years and they would never do that.

Re: Making Excuses
LIsa is right, I know this DJ and he would never do anything like that.
Some vendors just like to scare you so you'll book with them.

Re: Making Excuses
I don't think it's any of their business WHY you are canceling the appointment. You are not able to make it, (or whatever), and that should be enough for them. WHy are people so pushy???

Re: Making Excuses
I had a different experience. Two different dj's that I met with called to follow up and see what I decided to do. When I said that we decided to go with someone else, they did ask who. I didn't mind telling them because I was so happy with my choice and I knew that it wouldn't change my mind. The two dj's that I didn't book with actually had really nice things to say about my choice and said that he will do a really nice wedding for me. I thought that was very nice to hear and a very professional way to handle it. It's a shame that some dj's, like the one you decided not to go with can be so unprofessional. They are just either trying to get you to change your mind or it's all just sour grapes. Be glad you found this out now and that you did not go with them.

Re: Making Excuses
When we met with Imagine and decided to go with them, out of courtesy I chose to email one other photographer that we were considering, to let him know that we would not be using their services. He sent me an email stating that, your photos like your mate is stuck with you after everything is said and done, so he hope that I chose the right one.
I responded by telling him that we are happy with who we chose. I felt myself explaining to him, why we chose to go with Imagine over him, looking back at it, if I never gave you a deposit or told you to hold the date for me I do not owe you an explanation at all. I think it is very rude. Sheesh

Re: Making Excuses
Drmn, I cancelled my appointment because I decided to book another DJ.
I got the most craziest cold call the other day (I was not home but my sister got this call). It was from a bridal shop telling my sister to tell me that the dress I was looking at the other day has come in. When I came home from work and my sister told me, I was like which shop, what dress. I have not gone dress shopping yet. I have not even called to make appointments. Talk about a crazy cold call.

Re: Making Excuses
Wow, I've had a few follow ups, but I just keep telling them I haven't made a decision yet. I'm sure they'll get the hint eventuallly. I'm not sure what I would say, I guess it would depend on my mood. If someone was rude, or had nothing nice to say to me about who I did choose, you can be certain I would tell them, this is why I didn't pick you!

Re: Making Excuses
Lisa: if i got that call i would be messing with them so bad. I would be like oh you got my tafeta colored balloon dress with the emerald stones along the bodice and the 50 foot train that has shemrocks printed on them made by sir and fi's name.
When we were looking at halls, we looked at one on a saturday and the woman called me monday, then friday, then 2 weeks later, etc..i was like sorry we have decided to go elsewhere. she became a witch and was like well where, i said not you and hung up
i really think its none of there business who you book or use.

Re: Making Excuses
It is rude. I used to tell them that I would rather not tell them and thank them for their time. It used to happen to me all the time, especially with photographers.

Re: Making Excuses
I just tell vendors that I chose another vendor we had been looking at from the area. They get the idea. In a way I am glad when they ask this b/c then I know their level of professionalism and am glad that I didn't pick them!

It is rude.Just say 'my husband found something.I don't recall.'Then hang up or make something up. Its really not their business.

Re: Making Excuses
I agree with Sacha. Their response to you cancelling is a good indication of how professional they are. I once had a photographer tell me that I had no respect for his time when I called him to ask about his package he met with me on the previous day !! Can you believe that!!

You don't have to feel obligated to give them any excuse or tell them why, it's really none of their business.

Re: Making Excuses
I've been saying..'have a nice day'. I also think it is sort of rude and bar the door Katie if someone said to me..good luck you'll need it....I'd tell them to get a life
