Anyone have a fool proof way for starting a fire without one of those duraflame thingies?? FH and I tried all night tonight and just couldnt get it going! URGH!

my FMIL bought us these things-they are pinecones covered in wax-youlight them and throw them in the fireplace......they work great for us but you have to make sure that they are REALLY dry or they dont work
FH likes to use lighter fluid-but if you go this route youdont need alot.....we learned that the hard way..........

my parents use to roll up newpaper and shove it between the logs- then light the paper rolls- and it would then spread onto the logs and catch well

3 layers-
1. crumpled up newspaper 2. kindling- (small sticks, the splinters off the logs,bark) 3. logs
Make sure all the wood you are working with is DRY Works like a charm!
