At some other wedding's we've been to the father of the bride has made a speech, but since we paid for our wedding ourselves we thought it was appropriate to make one ourselves.
Dh just said a few nice things, thanked everyone for coming and pretty much just said let's get this party started!

Re: making speech at wedding?
i just read for the first time yesterday that it is 'proper etiquette' for the bride & groom to say a thank you speech at the wedding. i am considering doing it. i figured right after the cake cutting we can just say a quick thank you to our guest for being with us on our day.

Re: making speech at wedding?
I am not making a speech. The thought didn't even cross my mind. I don't think my guest are going to care what I have to say, they are just going to want to dance and have a good time.

We didn't make any speech.
I have a feelings the hours upon hours I will spend writing thank you cards will be enough.

Re: making speech at wedding?
I went to a wedding where both the bride and groom made a thank you speech and they went on forever- people were so tired some the end of the night i dont think anyone was listening to them.
But like someone else said- all those thank you cards you write out should be enough!

Re: making speech at wedding?
I'm not doing a speech.
My thank you cards are thanks enough. It's bad enough I have to dance in front of people with just my fiance.
I am not public speaking as well - even if it is just friends and family - there is a lot of them!!!
