If I havea receiving line at the church, do I have to go around to all the tables at the reception too?? I know it's important to acknowledge guests but I don't want to miss half my reception with people talking my ear off.

Re: Making the rounds at the wedding....
I think you usually choose between receiving line and making the rounds. I don't know, I'm not having a receiving line and of the last like 10 weddings I went to they haven't had one either, so I'm not positive.

I'm hopefully going to try to make the cocktail hour and talk to most people then... if not then just do a few mins at each table.

Re: Making the rounds at the wedding....
the problem with the receiving line at church and then reception is that not everybody goes to the church so there will be ppl at the reception who wont be at the church. But you can go to your CH and get your hello's out of the way like that. Also tell your FH not to stay at a table more than 5 mins. Also when i got to the rh day of wedding, maitre'd told me that if i needed him to pull me away from a table to come up with a signal so he would know, he said alot of ppl talk too much and the couple need to be saved sometimes lol. So i told him i would scratch my ear if i needed to be pulled away.

you do it during dinner while their all eating, you eat first, and then make your way around.....remember some guests wont be at the ceremony

We are having a receiving line and we are going to our cocktail hour so hopefully we will have made the rounds to almost everyone by the end of cocktail hour.

Re: Making the rounds at the wedding....
I am having a receiving line and talking to people at the cocktail hour. With the exception of a few older guests, if guests want to see me at the reception they can come find me on the dance floor.

Re: Making the rounds at the wedding....
Even with a receiving line I would try to make the rounds. I don't think etiquete wise that you have to... but its nice to get to see everyone enjoying themselves.

Re: Making the rounds at the wedding....
I had greeted everyone at the Cocktail Hour by myself. Was I supposed to greet everyone AGAIN with DH at the Reception? BC I didn't. Hehe.

I agree! They came to see you, you can spend a few minutes with them! I plan on going around at cocktail hour so I dont have to waste the reception.

I thought that was the point of the receiving line, no?
I mean of course I'll be talking to ppl at the wedding but I didn't know if it was a big deal if I didn't make it to EVERY PERSON twice.
Damn etiquette sometimes lol

I don't think you have to make rounds at the wedding but you may want to say hi to anyone that might have missed the church...

yeah you get screwed either way lol. The thing with the receiving line is that some ppl will go to the church and not reception, for example there might be ppl who go there that you didnt invite to reception but want to see you get married anyways or whatever reason they have for going lol. We had rb's grandparents come to the church and his aunt, they wanted to see him. Some of IL's neighbors came to the church. Also we had somebody who was invited but couldnt come to reception bc it was the day of her daughters big birthday party which is understable but she wanted to at least go to the church.
Then with saying hello at the reception, you have ppl who didnt go to the church. If you go to CH but just in case at the reception you realize there are ppl you missed, do it during dinner so this way you dont miss any dancing time

Re: Making the rounds at the wedding....
Our ceremony and reception are all at the same place. . .the cocktail hour is literally 10 feet away from our ceremony. I want to be able to EAT at my wedding (okay, FH wants to be able to eat at our wedding), so I think we're going to try to do a lot of the rounds at the cocktail hour.
