So we are finally looking into getting a puppy (yipee!) and are having trouble deciding. My FH is highly allergic to dander/dogs/cats, etc. , so we are limited. We LOVE malteses and shih-tzus and know they are supposably non-allergenic. Is this really true?? I am so scared that we will finally bring it home and then have to return it because my FH is sick. Comments? Also which would you choose?? (hard decision!)
My mother and I have terrible dander allergies. I had a Maltese growing up, and never had a problem with allergies. I now have a cocker spaniel and a mini poodle. The cocker spaniel is killing me, I have been sneezing for the past year because of him LOL. Look into mini poodle's as well if you want a small dander free dog. They are terrific dogs very smart, affectionate and super easy to train. Plus, you dont have to groom them to look like poodles. They have the cutest little curls. My Maltese was such a pain in the a$$!
i love my shih tzu she is so affectionate but can be very senstive at times emotionally especially when she's gets in trouble.
Hmm I know poodles are allergy friendly. Not sure about Maltese or Shih-tzu's.

Shih-tzu themselves are known to have allergy problems themselves when they get odler-but so do many other small dogs. The reason they don't cause severe allergy problems (I believe) with humans is because they do NOT shed!! Which is awesome. My mom has bad allergys and she has had her Shih-tzu for years and hasn't had problems. They are very cool dogs...and the cutest little puppies.
i just got a shih-tzu 2 weeks ago...i too have bad allergies to cats and to most dogs...i grew up with a yorkie which caused no allergies and now my shih-tzu mookiee really doesnt give me allergies! she does shed b/c it is very hot out and has longer hair, but have not gotten any hives or anything...if you get one from a breeder and tell them your issue, they may let you take one home for a day or two to see if hes allergic or not....shes an adorable dog, needs attention tho, like any baby...any questions FM me!
Bichons are also great for those with allergies. I have a bichon and I also have a cavalier spaniel and bichon mix called a cavachon. She is also non allergic. usually and of the mixes with poodles or bichons are great
Yep it is true...same goes for Yorkies and Poodles..
I believe they are hypoallergenic - our landlord has a malti-tzu absolutely adorable!
