Oi. I'm not sure what to do. I have a couple of issues, I'm not as close to the two girls i was considering anymore. They're both great, but I don't feel like we're really great friends anymore. Plus i feel bad burdening them with the duties of the MOH and bridesmaid. Just a couple of weeks ago one girl told me should couldn't afford to buy her other friend an engagement gift, and shes having other financial issues. Plus I don't think they're into this stuff. I told my one friend we were meeting with a photographer and she sounded suprised, like she didn't know why we needed one. One girl actually asked me if she was invited! Is it wrong to ask my brother to wear a dress? My Aunt had her son as her 'Best Man.' but i feel like it would be weird for everyone. I guess I'd feel like i was missing out on the whole 'lets go pick out dresses.' 'Lets go get our hair and nails done'. Do you think having my brother as my 'maid of honor' or 'best man' is weird?

Re: Man of Honor?
I have this issue before but I choose to have a Maid of Honor - she help me a lot esp on some things that a guy will not be comfortable on doing....such as bra, putting on dress, helping you re-apply lipstick, going to the bathroom to help you hold your dress, etc. However, I asked my guy friend to be one of my bride's man. He was in my shower, he stood on the bride side and was announced as my bride'sman. (DH has a groomgirl)

Re: Man of Honor?
I am/was in the same boat as you. I have some close girlfriends but my best friend is a guy. I went back and forth about having him be my MOH but then I realized that he might feel uncomfortable and I want a MOH to do all the girly wedding stuff. I asked my 2nd closest friend to be my MOH and my best friend is one of my FH's groomsman.

Re: Man of Honor?
i have a man of honor.
Honeslty it depends on your personality and his. Do you need someone to hold your hand on make descisions? Do you want this person to be in charge of your shower?
This is my thing: My man of honor asked to come with me to look at dresses for me and the two bridesmaids. So he was up for it but I don't need someone to go pick dresses out with me, I am a grown up and did it myself or with my mom. The bm's did it with me alone but he wanted to come which was nice but didn't work for his work schedule.
I told him upfront that my mom is paying for the shower 100% so he didn't have to pay for it but was expected to chip in for the bach party which I offered to help plan with him since it was an odd thing. We are having more men at my bach party then woman so we needed to make sure everyone would like it so we both have to plan it together. He is going to hold my bq when we get married and he is going to my dress fitting and my shower.
I have had two friends so far do the man of honor and it really works out well to be honest. Less drama, you have someone who you are really close to instead of a stand by, etc. BUT as i said you must communicate what the person's responsibilites are just like a female.

Re: Man of Honor?
I would have your bro as your 'man of honor' He could (if he was interested) still do all of those things with you, dress shopping, mani/pedi (my DH got a mani/pedi w/ DD the day before the wedding) and your GF's could go shopping with you too. My MOH lives up in CT so she didn't get to do a lot of things with me as she would have liked. Base it on who you want standing next to you on your day, not the shopping/dress thing. Go with your heart.

agreed...i've seen a few weddings where peole have a 'man' of honor....however u MIGHT wanna also have a girl as well - who's to say u can't have both? I mean, if u dont have a girl is really that special to u anymore than of course dont, but if u're going to want a girl to assist u in 'girl' things then i'd have both(i.e. trying to pee, getting u dressed, etc. lol). good luck! let us know what u end up doing

Re: Man of Honor?
my brother is my man of honor - he deserves the honor - but he wont participate in the traditional moh duties. he will stand on my side, he says he will wear any color tie/vest (he will match the grooms side tuxes), he will do a special brother/sister dance although he says he does not reccommend it ! and he will likely give a speech.
but i have my mom and aunt helping alot with the girl stuff
my bridesmaids - one is special to me but we dont see often, one is a jr, and one is out of state and another i still might ask (bros gf)
i am also thinking of mixing up the bridal party. i dont like separating genders and since my brother is alread on my side.. i think i may do this order of left to right:
groomsmen bridesmaid bridesmaid man of honor bride groom bestman bridesmaid jr bridesmaid jr groomsman
so its boy girl girl boy on each side

Re: Man of Honor?
I had my 2 brothers as my 'bridesmen'...my bro's wife was my MOH...i don't think it's silly to have guys in your BP if they are special to you... i did all the 'girly' stuff with my friends....even though they weren't in the BP

I would totally do it if thats who you feel closest with...
Honestly does it really matter to you who zips up your dress and stuff like that... My MOH's weren't even around when I got dressed it was so chaotic... Actually... WHERE WERE THEY!?!?!??! If you see in my pictures my mommy wasn't even there... it was my DOC... Because everyone else was getting ready! LOL...
