Mandatory florists

Mandatory florists

My reception hall is making us use either SPitz and Peck or Stefan's for the flowers (both of which I heard are not cheap), saying that it is for insurance purposes... anyone know the real reason, sounds like another bridal rip off to me!

fh's cousin is in a similar situation. she has to choose between 3 florists for her hall.
i'm not sure of the reason why...

ETA:
i remember a reason that fh's aunt told us- that their hall (a fancy temple in dix hills) has a certain 'standard' they must uphold and for what is expected at a wedding at that temple, and those 3 florists know what to do.

what's your reception site?

I know a lot of reception sites have their 'preferred' vendors where they will offer a discount for using them.

I have seen many reception halls that will only allow you to work with their vendors exclusively, stating insurance purposes b/c the site might require a very extensive and high amount of coverage by their vendors that the 'everyday' vendor might have issues sticking to.

No way! This is illegal, they cannot tell you who youo have to use. I would seriously make a huge complaint!

Re: Mandatory florists

they must be getting HUGE kickbacks from the florists for giving them your business...that's so sneaky :-/ What's your reception site?

for some reason alot of temples do this and only a few halls that i have heard of do this. but of course they are never inexpensive places. i think it is for insurance or just bsing to get kickbacks.

I know that the Fox Hollow requires that all there vendors carry Million Dollar Liability Insurance. They allow you to bring in any vendor as long as they carry that policy. They advised me that if they dont have proof of there insurance they will not let them in. But other wise you can use who ever you want.

I think if they say its for insurance, that's

it has kickback written all over it!!

Re: Mandatory florists

All they have an outside vendor has to provide is proof of insurance and fax the paperwork over. As long as they meet the hall's requirements, I don't think that they should be turned down.

Anyone know law on here?

Re: Mandatory florists

We're having it at the Royalton. Reasoning they say is because they are an old mansion and it's for insurance purposes... who knows...

any reviews on spitz and peck or stefan's?

Re: Mandatory florists

I would ask for their insurance requirements on paper. They should be able to supply you with that. Then, on your own see if the florist you would really want can meet those requirements. If so, then the mansion has no reason to say no. I mean come on... we are talking flowers here... not fireworks. What can possibly go wrong with flowers?

You can get a cert of insurance from your florist. The reception just wants proof that the florist is insured and sometimes wants to be listed as 'additional insured'

You should check if the Royalton requires this for all vendors, prob not just the florist.
