A co-worker is looking for a venue to have a 50 person reception in Manhattan. The places I know are for bigger crowds. Any receommendations?
Thanks!

Re: Manhattan reception site for 50 people?
I don't know if they want modern/casual/fancy or what their budget is, but here are some places to try (I'm not 100% sure about capacity at each):
CAPITALE: Capitale is SOOOO cool. It used to be a bank. They have 2 rooms that would work well together for that amount of people I think for hors. in one room and party in other. I forget the details - I called once and the food was semi-reasonable but the alcohol bill was really high.
BAYARD's - They have multiple rooms there & one might work. It is an eating club by day and restaurant by night. My Dad's friend goes to the club and raves about the food. For a regular big wedding I think they said $130 for 9 hors, 3 courses, open bar, etc.
BOUTERIN. Have heard of people having weddings and showers here and being very happy. It would be less than the place above. It is a restaurant.
OTHER CLUBS to try: Society of Illustrators (Showstoppers Caterers), Explorers Club, Yale Club (have rooms of all different capacities - Library, Saybrook room, etc).
WALDORF ASTORIA has smaller rooms and I think SOHO GRAND might as well (but the drinking bill is HIGH).

Oh - for a place with a possible view, I think you can rent out the Musuem of African Art (something like that) in Long Island City for about $1000 ($20pp for 50 people) and bring in stuff. James Catering is very reasonable and I liked their food. The web site says there is a view - don't know.

Do you know where Rosie O'Grady's is? It's 52nd St and 8th Ave (I think...? It's def. 52nd and across from the Sheraton Hotel). Above it is the Manhattan Room which holds up to 150 or so..and in the 'basement' of Rosie O'Gradys they have a lovely lounge that they use for the cocktail hour.

Call Citarella on 6th Avenue. They have a great space for what you're looking for and you can't beat the food. It's fabulous!!!!
