What if your natural nails aren't that pretty? I have ridges on my nails (I think it is genetic, my dad has horrible nails). I don't want to get fake nails if I don't have to. Maybe a gel manicure. Should I get a light pink then? Or can they hide the ridges somehow even though it is a french manicure?

You can still get a regular manicure. The manicurist can buff out the ridges and use a ridge filler.

Re: Manicure
Do weekly manicures get rid of ridges? I don't ever bite my nails. But the ridges grow in naturally as my nail grows in.

A weekly manicure will result in your nails being buffed smooth every week. They will probably still grow in with ridges, but after a few months the only ridges will be new growth area at the cuticle. You could probably do it only every other week and get the same results.

So does buffing damage your nails? Or is it okay for them? I'm naive when it comes to manicures...never had one on natural nails! I used to have acrylics, though.

i'm wearing a chocolate brown. i always wear dark colors in the fall (polish & lipstick) and i feel most comfortable wearing them then paler shades. so, i'm sticking with it for my wedding.

Me, too! I love Sugar Daddy and I have i on right now.
I vaguely remember seeing something about non-light pink colors in a bridal magazine - I think it was an old Martha Stewart. Anyway, they showed pics of other colors and they looked pretty. I don't think any of them were really dark-dark, though, and they corrdinated with the flowers. I think how it looks would depend on your complexion, too. I am really really fair and dark colors look funny on my fingers no matter what I am wearing, but I think other complexions look great with dark nail polish.
My toes, however, are another story. I have to wear closed toed shoes to work (OSHA), so my toes are always a more outlandish color since no one sees them except outside work. Right now they are bright blue. For the wedding I was thinking of doing a very, very pale blue french mani so my toes would be my something blue. I have to try it our first to make sure that I don't look like a corpse, though.

To the best of my knowledge buffing doesn't do serious damage like wearing acrylics can do. It is of course taking off the top layer (or more depending on how deep the ridges are)of the nail to smooth it out. However, if you are only going to do it for the two months leading up to the wedding there will be no permenant damage as the nails will grow back in.

For my toes I was planning on doing a deep sahde of blue (as my something blue) with air brushed wedding bells on the big toe. ONly the hubby will see those however. It's the color for my hands I'm undecided about.
