Many of you know... (long)

Many of you know... (long)

I recently told all of you about the situation with my father's health. With that I was able to share with you how FH and I went to his hospital room and told him we were getting married without a ring so as not to tempt fate in the event that my father should pass. We wanted him to know - it was important to us.

Dad is in comfort care (hospice) and is in and out of consciousness. His cognitive functioning is difficult to assess but I venture to say is minimal at best.

Last night, Ed made things rather official. On the second night of Passover, after my niece and I read the four questions during the seder, Ed sitting next to me, in front of my entire immediate family said:

'I have a FIFTH question. Will you marry me?'

I cried, said 'YES,' and he didn't hear me so he had to ask me again. Again I said 'YES!' and then he put the ring on my finger. My brother, who was so deep into the seder didn't lift his head to see what was going on until everyone else was screaming and crying. Needless to say the rest of the seder was a great big blur. I got light headed after my matzah ball soup, ate nothing else and promptly threw up.

After all of that, we decided to go back to the hospital and tell dad yet again. He was sleeping but I have to believe that G-d was waiting for us to tell him.

Thank you all. This full (and incredibly complete) DNR was many months in the making. It took hours of meetings with many doctors and nurses in ICU to help convince mom that this was the best thing. Dad is comfortable, he is being hydrated and fed via feeding tube and he is on morphine for pain. His long term health care insurance enabled him to have private duty nurses so he is not alone and that helps us as well as him.

I still can't believe I threw up. Did that happen to anyone else or am I the only one?

I didn't throw up when my DH proposed, but my stomach WAS in knots. Happy knots, but knots nonetheless!

The only time I can think of that I threw up because of nerves, was when I saw my cousin get killed.
I emptied my entire system then!!

Congrats Leslie! I'm so happy for you!

I threw up the morning after our wedding, but I attribute that to the 3 1/2 hours of sleep I got!
