March wedding?

March wedding?

Hi all! I really had my heart set on a November wedding -- the aesthetics of Fall without the Sept/Oct pricing. However, our favorite place right now is $5,000 cheaper to get married in March than November and to me that's really significant -- I mean, that could be for a photographer or a band, etc. just to change the date! The only thing I'm worried about is March weather. This past spring was SO horrible I'm worried it could be the same again and I HATE snow and cold!!!!! Does anyone have any experience with March weddings -- ones you've been to? Or why did you decide on March for your wedding, if you did?

Thanks!

I cannot speak to attending a March wedding however I despise snow and the cold and our wedding is dead in the middle of winter (January 18th) because it saved us such a significant amount in the end. And I'm praying to the weather gods that since we had such a horrendous winter last year that this year will be mild..

Also on a side note no matter what month you end up choosing there's some sort of weather system that 'could' occur... You can't stress about the things you have no control over and I say if it's going to save you $ go for it...

It's really true, no matter what month you pick there is a chance of having some kind of extreme weather, even if it's a freak storm of some kind. If you don't mind changing the time of year and will still be happy I say do it, but if you *really* want November, don't settle. I know it's a lot of money but maybe you can try and cut costs in other areas.

My sister got married in March 2013 and it was a little cold and rainy. I remember the few days leading up to it were actually warm and then her wedding day was chilly. My aunt and cousin were suppose to fly in Ohio for the wedding, but they had snow where they are and couldn't make it.

We also went to a wedding in the first week of April 2013 and it was a little cold then too.

But 5k is a big price difference that I would take a chance on, if time of year is no big deal.

You never know what can happen. But For $5,000, I'd take the gamble!

If you are concerned about weather, and if dates are available, maybe you can look into the last week(s) of March. That might cut down your chances of snow significantly. It could be bad weather in November too...didn't it snow on Halloween a few years back?! I say do March and use the money to make your wedding exactly how you want.

Originally I wanted to get married on our anniversary in February and my FH convinced me otherwise since it was important for us to be able to get to our wedding. We live out of state and half of our invite list does as well so we went with an April wedding. I would take the savings tho since that would help pay for a different aspect of your wedding.

Thanks everyone! I know weather can be unpredictable at any time of year but I just feel like March has the tendency to be so much worse. Plus it would be a few weeks after my birthday and a few weeks before FSIL's wedding anniversary. But it IS a lot of money to be saved. I guess I have to gamble with the weather no matter what.

There are no guarantees so just save the 5,000..go for the last weekend in march

Honestly for $5k I would just go with the last weekend in March because it can be very cold in November anyways and could possibly even snow. March & November weather is very unpredictable could go either way. If you're not set on that month and want to save that much money that could either be put elsewhere or saved towards a house or something then I would definitely go with March!

I got married this past March 14th, the weather was beautiful, blue skies and the sun shinning. It wasnt hot but by no means was it to cold. Go for it and splurge on something else

Exactly this!! When FH and I got engaged and started venue shopping we were dead set on September 26, 2014 as our date bc I love this time of year and the 26 is a sentimental number for us. After seeing the difference in price from September to January it was more than enough to make me change my mind especially since we are paying for the wedding ourselves. And I hate the cold as well I sleep with a blanket during the summer lol but you figure besides some pictures, unless you want an outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour (which we didn't), most of the night is spent indoors anyway! Not to mention the difference in price for vendors. We are using the same DJ as FH best friend who us getting married in June and we literally got double in our package for about 1500 less!

We are booked for early March so I'm prepared for it to be a little cold. I'm even ok with snow as long as it's not a snow storm lol It was such a cost difference for us and I couldn't see the point in paying so much more per plate for the same exact menu in a warmer month. My luck it would rain! Lol The way I see it it only effects my pictures which I still think will be beautiful. Otherwise we will be inside the whole time anyway. I'm actually really excited about the idea of winter. We get to use fireplaces in the hall and I'm not going to be sweating off my makeup :) I think it's definitely worth the cost savings.

Girlllll you got a much better chance than us! Lol same as you ... Never would of thought I would getting married in the winter but it was a no brainier when we are paying for it ourselves and how huge the price difference is. We are getting married in Feb and I just have the mentality now that if it snows... The pictures will be beautiful. Also , keep in mind since we ARE getting married in the winter you can negotiate SO MUCH more . Push for extras at cocktail hour and push for a viennese hour. We did!
