Marina del Rey or Russo's??? HELPPP! (with update)

First off sorry if this is long...As most of u know I'm a newbie and just got engaged 1 week ago but already I'm starting to look at halls because I want to set the date and relax for a lil bit. So yesterday we went to visit our first hall - Marina del Rey in Throgsneck. I've been to 2 weddings at Marina and plus my parents and a dozen other family members have gotten married there. The place is absolutely gorgeous. The view at Marina is beyond beautiful and if any of u haven't gone there in the past 2 years then you really won't recognize it because the whole place underwent renovations last year and now it seems like a completely different hall. One word to describe it: amazing. Now here's my dilemma...marina is gorgeous but i'm not sure if the menu is worth what they quoted me, because from what i hear the prices are basically the same at russo's and i looked at the wedding menu and there is an obvious surplus of food offered. In my opinion, no one beats Russo's reputation of food quality and service and that's the most important factor to both my FH's and my family. But honestly I can't get the room and scene at Marina out of my head...so here's my dilemma: do i go with Marina and get the beautiful scenery and compromise some food or do I go with Russo's where I know there will be a surplus of food but without the great scenery. i'd really appreciate any of your advice. Thanks

Does Marina have a site? I would love to see pics to compare. But I heard the food and Russos is out of this world and that is important.

Russo is known for their food.

I had the same dilemma, I was so torn.. In the end I went with Russo's because everyone says your not going to get the food and service anywhere else. I also took into consideration what are people going to be talking about after the wedding food and service or ambiance? Russo's goes above and beyond for you, hope this helps. FM me if you need anything else.

This is a tough one. Both places are amazing. But I do like Marina del Rey a lot. I actually wanted to get married there but it was a little too pricey.

Good Luck deciding. I think either place you pick will be great. They are both beautiful with great food.

I literally live 5 blocks away from Russo's - and am there for weddings, engagement parties, communions, sweet 16's, showers - everything and anything.

I lovee Russos - and the food is amazing - and in abundance -BUT - i didnt want my wedding to be there bc when i go to weddings there - its not excting for me anymore - bc i know whats gonna happen next - what food they have - everything! Anyways, my e-party is at Russos - and the only thing i dont like abt Russos is that although the inside is gorgeous, the outside is not as nice (although it looks better now w/ the renevations - but i like places with a lot of flowers, and water fountains, etc.)

Marina Del Rey was one of my top choices - I loveee the scenery - but like you sd that food is not the same as Russos.

I hate to make you more confused - but check out the Watermill - its gorgeous - and they had everything I wanted - the beautiful scenery, and the abundance of food (w/ the gourmet menu), and the service is awesome too!! The prices are abt the same as Russos - and you can have both the scenery AND the food and service! The guy from Watermill sd that alot of people from Brooklyn and Queens go to the Watermill bc their sick of Russos.

You can FM me if you want anymore info - and I can tell from your name that your italian - sicilian right? I am too - so I know that the main thing you and your FH look for is the abundance of food and good service ... bc thats what italians main concern is - right??

pupidda122505 - another place I would recommend is Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle. It is gorgeous!!! Its by the water - like Marina - their is a surplus of food, the service is excellent, and the food is really good. It is a littleee more $$ than Russos - but its worth it!! My brother got married there 2 yrs ago - and - honestly - thats the only reason why I didnt pick it - I just dont wanna do everything he did for his wedding - ya know - I want mine to be different ....

i would go with the place that has the better food! as pretty as a view is, people always seem to remember the food over the view!!

i attended/was in a wedding at marina del ray & it was one of the best places (IMO) for a wedding (i am picky!!) but if the only reason you were going to select it was for the view---then i wouldn't pick it-----the view was gorgeous for pics and during the cocktail hour--however as soon as the reception started i don't remember going out once!! i am not sure how many reception rooms there are but the room we were in didn't have a view of the water or if it did and i just can't remember--i was too busy having fun! everyone is too busy eating and dancing not looking out the window!!!
ETA: why not try lombardis on the sound--great/a lot of food and it's on the water---great service--best of both worlds!

They are both excellent choices, but I'm biased...Russo's hands down.

It is absolutely amazing inside...so sparkling you can eat off the floor.
Impeccable service...food is out of this world...and the WOWS never stop. Weddings at Russos are talked about for years to come.

And no offense, but I would disagree with Love4Eva on behalf of other brides. Before booking I chatted with many other brides on this site who had been to Russos over and over again..everyone in the families get married there, sweet sixteens..yadda yadda yadda .and none ever claimed to be 'SICK' of going there. Sure people want change if you go to the same place all the time...so in your case....if you have had a lot of weddings at Marina Del Ray......then lets go somewhere different. Go to Russos. Go to a food tasting. You will be sold!

Words can not describe this place, the food, and the service...go check them out...do yourself a favor

Furthermore.....anytime I tell people in NY that I am having a wedding at Russo's...the oo's and ahh's never stop....their reputation preceeds them and the world knows about it...that just speaks levels!!!

Ask for Carol Silva..tell her Nina sent you, Good Luck...HTH

wow...sounds like the same exact thing i was struggling with a few months ago. I too fell in love with Marina DEl Ray because of the view. I found that the food was significantly less than that of Russo's though. Coming from a big Italian families, food was a significant priority for us.

It was amuzing because the banquet manger from Marina asked us where else we were considering and we told him Russo's, and he pretty much sold us on getting married at Russo's. When me and my FH left, we couldn't believe how many great things the Marina banquet manager had to say about Russo'. I think that they are equally priced. One place you're paying for the food and service, and they other place you are paying for the view...I know it's a big decision.

Good Luck!!!!

congrats on your upcoming wedding! i had my first wedding at Russo's and you can't beat the food or the service. you can always have your pictures done at a location with a great view before you head over to Russo's for the reception. the viennese hour at Russo's is one of a kind! good luck with your planning

Nina - no offense taken - I am at Russos at least once a month for a party - so its nothing new to me to go to Russos - thats the only reason why I didnt choose it.

Puppida122505 - My sister got married at Russos like 10 yrs ago - and she went to Westbury Gardens to take pics - and its really beautiful there!! there's a site fee (i dont know how much it is - but it is really pretty) so, if you pick Russo's - you can consider that for your pics

Re: Marina del Rey or Russo's??? HELPPP!

Girls thanks sooo much for all your advice. I've barely been engaged for a week but already I've experienced how great this website is and how helpful all of u are FH and I are actually going to Russo's in about an hour to check out dates and prices. We've pretty much decided to go ahead with Russo's because like all of u said a nice view doesn't beat high quality food and top notch service. so i'm off to russo's today...keep your fingers crossed that they aren't completely booked for July '07 pleaseee and I'll let u know how it went when i get back later tonight

Re: Marina del Rey or Russo's??? HELPPP!

So I went to Russo's last nite with FH and it went great. Our date (7/7/07) is available and we have a temporary hold on the date for 2 days, so we're going back tomorrow with our deposit. I can't believe I booked my reception hall already! It just makes everything seem more real now that I have a date. So next on my list is the church and DJ. Thanks again for all your help girls!

Yea we have the Tivoli I've been to Russo's a bunch of times but I never really paid attention to detail and when i went yesterday to book it was as if I was going there for the first time. I really couldn't be happier with our choice and now the countdown begins
