Hi all- This is my first time using NYCityWeddings and hope this will prove to be super helpful!
So my FH and I are considering Marina Del Rey for a 10/2012 wedding. We went once and like the look and feel of the place but it can potentitally be a bit on the high end. Wondering if anyone has been and if there is a chance of negotiating with them?
Any tips/advice on how to negotiate would be appreciated!!! Thanks

Re: Marina Del Rey-Throggs Neck
I just went to a wedding there in May of last year. I've heard it's a bit on the higher end but I know my friend and his wife didn't want to spend a fortune on their wedding either. Service was great and Cocktail & Viennese hours were OUT OF THIS WORLD AMAZING. Wasn't really too crazy about my entree but it could have just been what I ordered because my FH liked his a lot.
My aunt's niece also just got married there last year (in February) and everyone raved about it.
As far as tips on how to negotiate go...
See if they'll cut the price or throw another station in if you cut down the amount of passed hors d'ouveres. The CH at Marina DelRey is so massive, I barely ate any passed hors d'ouveres because I was running up to the stations.
If you're interested in doing a VH, see if they'll cut the cost of VH by just serving your cake. Some places offer plated desserts in addition to the cake but if you take the plated desserts out, they'll usually work with you.
I think October is still considered a popular month, so see if there's a difference in price if you move the wedding to Nov. Saturday nights are the most expensive, followed by Fridays and then Sundays.

Re: Marina Del Rey-Throggs Neck
I called them and they quoted me $100-$130 for a Saturday night in May or June of 2012. Friday or Sunday they said it was $100.

Hi - Just curious, are those rates including tax and tip?? I was quoted a bit higher but did get tax and tip included. Also, any feedback on day weddings?

Re: Marina Del Rey-Throggs Neck
I actually live down the block and many of my friends have been working there for years. A good friend of my FH will be getting married there in a month (if i'm off from work and can go, i'll let you know how it is). I've been there for tons of events, including sweet 16s, weddings, proms and even a NYE party. For FH and I, it was just too local for us to even think of having the wedding there, but it is a very nice venue. Food is pretty good, i've never had any problems. And the CH is huge. I do believe it is 2 weddings at a time, but i could be wrong about that. It was of my opinion, that price is all realiative when concerning weddings. It all depends on how much your getting for your money. I am booked at the sand castle, which is on the 'high' side, but you get a TON of stuff thrown in. I would see what the Marina gives you, and then decide if its 'high' or not. You only get married once! If i go to the wedding next month, i'll let you know what i think.

I have family who lives down the block from Marina too. They're on Harding. They belong to the church right around the block from the hall too.

i was engaged once before and i was going to get married at the Marina del Rey. Its very high end and super pricey but you get so much for your money its not even funny. I think when all was said and done, with VH and everything else, taxes, tips etc we were paying about $185 pp
