I have a question. . . can my FH and I get our marriage certificate at City Hall in NYC if we're getting married in suffolk country? I work downtown and City Hall is very convenient for me. Thanks!

Re: Marriage Certificate in NYC
I just came back from getting our marriage licesne at City Hall. It's at 1 Centre Street which is that huge building with the arch right at Centre Street and Chambers St. They only accept money orders and you really only need one form of id. We got there at 8:15 and the doors open at 8:30 and were out by 9:00. Overall it's pretty painless, but I'd get there as soon as you can in the morning. Good luck!
I forgot to add that the office is on the second floor & you need to go to window 7 first.

Re: Marriage Certificate in NYC
We are going Friday morning - I got this off the web...
How do we get married in New York City?
First you will need to obtain a marriage license. You do not need to make an appointment (except for Staten Island where you need to make an appointment) and you do not need to take a blood test.
Both the prospective bride and groom must appear in person at one of the borough offices of the City Clerk of New York (sited in the Borough Halls in each borough), bringing proof of identification (either original or certified copies of passport, driver's license or non-driver ID, military ID, visa or green card) and a money order payable to the 'City Clerk of New York' for $30. No cash or personal checks will be accepted.
All documents must be in English or accompanied by a certified English translation. If either person was married before, he or she must name the earlier spouse together with the date and place that the marriage was finally dissolved. The papers will be prepared while you are in the office. You must wait 24 hours before getting married, and the license is good for 60 days. If the marriage does not take place within 60 days the license expires and another license must be obtained. The license can only be used in the State of New York. The marriage ceremony itself costs $25 (money order only payable to the 'City Clerk of New York') and takes place only in the office. Only the Staten Island office requires an appointment. You should have one witness unless one of the applicants is under 18, in which case both parents should also be present.
Office hours for City Clerk borough offices are as follows:
Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm (Manhattan) and Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm (Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island)..
* 212 669-2400 (in Manhattan) City Clerk of New York Manhattan: Municipal Building (south side),1Centre Street, 2nd floor, NY 10007
Wow! Thanks for the great info!! I'm glad to hear you were out by 9!

Re: Marriage Certificate in NYC
We also got our marriage license in Manhattan and got married in Long Island. In addition to bringing ID, BRING A PEN!!! They will not give you a pen. We went at 9 am and it was pretty painless. Make sure you have a $30 money order as well. Good luck!

Re: Marriage Certificate in NYC
I also forgot to add a funny story about getting our marriage licesne to my post. Last weekend one of FH's groomsmen took us to see Bruce Springsteen at the Meadowlands, and there were about 16 guys right near us for a bachelor party. While we were waiting on line for the marriage license, my FH realized that the guy behind us with his fiancee was the groom from that bachelor party. What a small world!
