So, I called Huntington Town Hall and they said I need a certified birth certificate plus a drivers license or passport. My FH's birth certificate is some where in TX -- have any of you run into this at other townhalls? Then I called Manhasset Town Hall and they said we just need a Drivers License and Passport -- not a birth certificate.
So isnt this something that should be standard for one location to another in NY -- Is Huntington a little uptight?
If you got your marriage license what did you provide for ID?

Each place is different (unfortunately) - we went in Brooklyn and only needed our drivers' license.

Re: Marriage License Documentation HELP
I didn't get mine yet...but I heard every town has their own requirements. Perhaps just get it at the Manhasset town hall. You can go to any town hall in New York State. I'm getting mine from White Plains---its convenient for fh.

Re: Marriage License Documentation HELP
I went to the town of hempstead...and they said that they would take either a birth certificate or a baptismal record. They just want to prove that brother and sister aren't getting married.

Re: Marriage License Documentation HELP
We went to Town of Riverhead and needed Birth Certificate and Driver's License or Passport...
Note: you can get one anywhere in new york state and use it anywhere you want, EXCEPT for NYC. If you want to get married in NYC you have to get it there and can only use it there. I'm not sure why they do it differently, but they do.

I had a similar issue this morning with one township asking me to have a NY licensed translator for my birth certificate.
Needless to say, we called another township. They told us just to bring 2 IDs.

Re: Marriage License Documentation HELP
We went to Islip town hall. We needed a birth certificate and a drivers license. A passport was not sufficient enough we had to show our birth certificates. But, all town halls are different.

Did Huntington also tell you that you have to be a town resident for them to issue the license?? They have that posted on their website.

My bad, I was confusing it with the fact that if you want to get married in NYC, the officiant must be registered with the city clerk specifically.
I knew they had some funky rule... http://nycmarriagebureau.com/about/marriageceremonyinfo.html
