does anyone know if it HAS to be an original copy of your birth certificate? fh and i may have a problem that we just realized... he is in the middle of an adult adoption process with the family that took him in a few years ago when his biological mother died, and his original has been mailed away with other documents he had to send in. he only has a copy...

Re: marriage license question...
i went today for our marriage license and you do need the original copy. definitely try calling the town hall in which he was born, they can give you a reissued original on the spot usually.

thanks for this info... i guess i have a lot of calls to make tomorrow. fh apparently thinks the rules don't apply to him and that his copy will be just fine, and i've tried telling him that he needs the original and he just doesn't get it.

I don't even think I have my birth certificate since I was born in Ukraine, it would be in russian anyway. This is what required:
Proof of Age and Identity A person is required to establish proof of age and identity by submitting to the issuing clerk one of the following age related documents:
Birth Certificate Baptismal record Naturalization record Census record And one of the following identity related documents:
Driver's license Passport Employment picture ID Immigration record

I called Pastor April about this a few days ago. She said if the Town Hall has any problem with a birth certificate, just 'cross the border' and go to Queens because they only require a driver's license. Yes, she did said cross the border. Yes, I did laugh :).

Re: marriage license question...
From what i was told on Birth Certificates, it technically does not have to be the 'original' Bc yes they do get lost and misplaced, but it does have to have the RAY OF SEAL on iit. I lost mine years ago, and went to the Town of Mineola where i was born, and i got a new BC with a ray of seal.
