Marriage License/Passport Questions

Marriage License/Passport Questions

Couple questions:

1) How far in advance before your wedding day are you allowed to get your marriage license?

2) I know you need your birth certifiate to get your marriage license but I also need to get my passport for our July honeymoon (i know, bad Eloise). How long does it take to get your birth certificate back from applying for your passport?

I'm just nervous that if I got for my passport before the marriage certificate I won't have my birth certificate.

Thanks!

1) 60 days

2) I applied for mine a couple years ago at the post office...I did not need to leave my birth certificate with them at all though. BUT...you can also get your marriage license with just your drivers license and baptism certificate. That's what we did b/c I was too lazy to find our birth certificates and obviously the baptism ones were handy.

I'm pretty sure you can't get the marriage license earlier than 60 days before. I got my passport like 5 years ago so I don't rememeber exacty, but I think it took between 1-2 months to get my birth certificate back

I dont really know any of these answers but I do know you can get multiple copies of your birth certificate from the town hall in the city you were born in so maybe if you had two certified copies you wont have to stress yourself about this.

yes, we did this for FH because he couldn't find his original. It was 10 bucks for a certified copy.

eta: I agree you may want to go about getting a copy so you cover all your bases

no earlier than 60 days.

And FH and I are getting our license in the city where you don't need a birth certificate, just drivers license. An option if you don't get it back in time?-

Ok - thanks ladies.

Knowing that I don't NEED my birth certificate for the marriage license is a good thing! I'm pretty sure it took FH a while to get his back from applying for his passport.

Thanks, Jill.

Does it have to be the original baptisim cert? Or can it be the new one the church issued me to get married in a different church other then my parish?

60 Days before. I would maybe not do it exactly 60 days before and go a little after. It's a pretty quick process and you can submit the application ahead of time online so you don't have to fill it out once you get there. FH and I did that and we were in and out in like 15-20 minutes.

I'm pretty positive I did not have to give them my birth certificate to get my passport. Maybe a copy if anything but definitely not the original. Maybe I brought it with me and they made a copy? It was a while ago so I don't remember the whole process. I'm not getting the name on my passport changed until after we get back from Ireland in August since I already purchased the tix under my maiden name.

Either! We had our new ones, we did the marriage license right before we dropped them off at the church.
