We are closing in on 60 days in our countdown, so I want to go for our marriage license soon.
What do you need to bring with you (i.e. drivers licencse, birth certificate?) AND Am I correct in thinking that we go to a town hall for this?

Re: Marriage licenses
You have to go to the county clerk office. In NYC it costs $35 and you HAVE to pay via money order.
Check out the county clerk's office website for hours, ID, etc.
You will also need to know both parents names and place of birth - county and state and country (FH wasn't sure which county his dad was born in, so we hope we guessed right )

Re: Marriage licenses
We just did this on Friday. The fee was $40. I went to the town clerk's office on washington street in hempstead. Really simple, just bring two forms of id for each of you.

Re: Marriage licenses
We went to the Hempstead town hall and paid $40 cash for ours- we did this on Valentine's Day and there was very little wait surprisingly.
All we needed was our passports and birth certificates... also you need to know you're parents names as well so they can put that on the license.
I also know you can use your birth certificate and drivers license if you don't have a passport.

Re: Marriage licenses
ok IIIIII have a question that you can TOTALLY file under the 'weird' category :) do you HAVE to have both of your parents names? I actually don't have my parents names on my birth certificate at all --- oddly enough

You have to at least know them from what I understand- it's a question that they will ask.
FH didn't have his parents names on his (whereas I had them on mine) and they still asked him the question and spelling.
Also I forgot to add you have to know your social security # too...they ask you that as well.

Re: Marriage licenses
fh just did our license on friday.
We had our driver license and birth certificate and that is all we needed. We had our social security card on hand.
We paid $40 cash and my birth cert didn't have where my parents were born but they just needed to know if they were born in here (USA).
You must proof read it before she notarizes it. My mother's name was spelled wrong so we had to edit it.
After that it was nice to meet and your outta here.
ONE WARNING!!!!!! Make sure you know what you want to do with your last name after the wedding. They are no longer doing 'edits' after your married where you decide if you want a hyphen or to change it after the wedding. I knew I wanted fh's name right away but some poor girl had called when we were there saying she changed her mind and wanted a hyphenated last name and she told her she would have to legally change it through the courts. EEEKS!

Ouch yes have an idea on what you want to do.. I went back and forth as to what I wanted to do but thankfully I made up my mind a long while ago to hyphenate it.
