The same thing we did as an engaged couple..split the days in half. Luckily my family eats earlier than his...we do both and are stuffed!

Re: MARRIED 08ERS
We are spliting it. Christmas Eve with my mom and Christmas day with the in-laws. For the rest of the holidays we are doing them every other year, every other holiday. Basically my moms for thanksgiving and his moms for Easter then vise versa next year. But Christmas stays the same every year.

Re: MARRIED 08ERS
t's actually easier than I thought it'd be. DH's parents are in Phoenix, so we're spending Rosh Hashanah and Thanksgiving with my family. I think I'll make Chanukah, and we'll have everyone (my parents, brothers, sister, brother-in-law, DH's aunt, uncles, little cousins) over to our house.

Re: MARRIED 08ERS
We may do thanksgiving at our place, since it's just my parents, bro, sis and aunt and uncle with their little kids.
Christmas Eve and Day...definitely with my family...but I'm not sure if it's going to be in NY or PA (where most of my aunts/uncles/cousins live.We have Christmas with Dh's family on the weekend of christmas.
Easter is at my moms with my ENTIRE family.
Dh's mom is deceased and his dad does all holidays at their house with his wife's family. I was a little insulted when they told us 'we understand that you won't be able to come here on holidays, you can always be with Diana's family' Umm, ok that makes things easier...but why don't they want to spend holidays with us?!

I will be hosting our first MARRIED Thanksgiving and Christmas Day with both families together. My IL's always host Christmas Eve.

Re: MARRIED 08ERS
Thanksgiving will be at my moms. DH is not a big family/ celebrations person and even less since his mom passed. X-mas eve my moms house then his family for dessert. X-mas day my grandfathers then his family early afternoon.
However, all this could change bc DH works for teh FDNY and might work all the holidays to let the senior men be there with their family. It will actually make things easier bc holidays are really big in my family and this would let me stay with them. So who knows!!!!!

Re: MARRIED 08ERS
Thanksgiving we are hosting at our home.
Christmas is really up in the air because I'm due early january, so I may not be up to cook nor go drive to get everywhere.
Plus I really want this christmas to ourselves, if the baby doesn't arrive early ((which I secretly hope he does lol)) then I want that last x-mas with just me and the hubby, since it will be the last we're alone.

Re: MARRIED 08ERS
DH is a cop so he often works on holidays which makes it easier for me. My family is big on all of the holidays while his side is usally small. What we did last year was Thanksgiving with my family and my FIL, MIL and SIL came. Christmas eve was with my family, Chrismas morning we spent with his and then DH went to bed and I went to my aunt's house in the afternoon. Easter he was actually off for so we split the day. Dinner at my parent's and dessert at his parents.

I know how that goes, Chrissy! DH works nights and is only off Thurs, Fri & Sat nights... so he's always off for Thanksgiving, but this year, he'll have to work on Christmas AND New Years Eve, but not Christmas Day and New Years Day. And he always works Easter b/c it's a Sunday. It's definitely rough!!!

Re: MARRIED 08ERS
We will be spending both here, with his family. Buying a house was decided to be more important than seeing my grandma at Christmas But at least we'll be seeing my parents in Oct, so that's almost the holidays

Re: MARRIED 08ERS
i know i am not married yet but soon haha
well this year it will be soooo different than any other year we have been together. The last 4 years that we have had to do holidays FH usually came home from either Maryland, San Diego or Japan so his family (who are NOT big holiday people) all of a sudden wanted to celebrate every holiday that FH was home for.
Now my family is HUGE and very BIG on holidays. But thankfully Thanksgiving we just spent a little time at FH's house and then went to mine. Fh's mom likes to be done early with everything and laying in bed (she works alot so she is always tired). So we went to dinner at my familes house last year. But this year FH wont be home so I am still with my family.
Every Christmas Eve for the last 20 years my parents have had a HUGE party both sides of the family and friends at our house. But thankfully FH has always came to for the last 15 years haha. But like I said when FH is home they want him to spend that time wiht him so all of a sudden last 2 xmas eves FIL's had dinner and their cousins over. SO this year we will do some little dinner and opening present w/ FILs and then my christmas eve party and xmas day we are sleeping at my parents. lol yes we will have been married for 5 days but I cant imagine not waking up at my parents house opening gifts especially w/ my sisters and brothers (who are all younger than me) Fh is excited to he LOVES christmas at my house...it was never like that for him when he was younger. But FIL's alwyas stop by on xmas eve and xmas day...but this xmas day we also leave for our honeymoon at 11pm at night haha
Oh and Easter is pretty easy his family is Greek Orthodox so their easter is different days!

Re: MARRIED 08ERS
ITs really only Thanksgiving thats difficult for us b/c I dont celebrate Christmas so we go visit DH's family in RI. We've gone to RI for Thanksgiving for the last 4 years and I miss seeing my family for that holiday even though I see them all the time. I feel guilty not going to DH's family since we rarely have time to see them as it is. This year I think we might just go to RI for Sat and Sun or Thanksgiving weekend and spend the rest of the weekend in NY. At least we'll see them for a little bit.
