I don't know what the protocol is but FH asked if we could get married at city hall because currently he does not have insurance and he wants to be added to mine. If we went to city hall to get married, will the chuch find out and get annoyed? I am not really sure how to go about this.

Re: Married at City Hall
Yes, you have to let the church know about it. My friend and my cousin did this and then later had their marriages solemnized by the Church. My friend's church had a problem with it and it was a hassle. My cousin's didn't, and it was relatively easy.
I'd talk to your priest before doing anything.

I think with all churches it really just depends on how down to earth the priest is there.
I'm not a fan of my chuch. Don't plan on ever going there again.

Re: Married at City Hall
I got married civilly first because 1) we got pregnant right after getting engaged..oopsie. 2) I got laid off right after I found out I was preggo, so I needed his insurance. 3) I wanted to be married before the baby was born.
That was in 08...and in 09 we took our vows in church. We had to tell them we were already married...it wasn't an issue tho. We still had to do pre-cana because the church does not recognize a civil marriage. So to them it's like you're not married lol. I have 2 marriage cert.'s. One with the civil date, and another with the church. It's confusing lol.

We were married legally in May because I had a health scare and didn't have insurance. Our church had no problem with it, but you do have to let them know. They didn't mention anything in our religous ceremony either, I know for us that was important to me since not everyone knows we were legally married before our 'wedding' day.

Its not a renewal of the vows because you have never been married in the church.....
