Did you do a receiving line / table visits or both? My mom is dead set on a receiving line, but I know alot of people won't be at the church so we would prob have to do both. How long did this take for you, and when did you start the table visit ? We are having a singer during dinner & bagpipers afterwards so Im wondering if its rude to do the visits while he is singing? We have 20 tables, also we are not doing first look so cocktail hour visiting most likely is not an option.

Re: Married ladies
I did not do a receiving line. I wanted to go take pics and that would have taken to much time. I did all my greetings during cocktail hour so I can enjoy the reception.

Re: Married ladies
We did a receiving line..We went to CH and spoke to everyone (sepratedly and some together)
We tried to do tables we only had 8 and never made it past the 3rd one.
Then everyone else spoke to me on the dance floor where I spent the rest of the night
We started during the apps. But we definately spoke to everyone at our wedding so I didn't feel too bad.

Re: Married ladies
I didn't have a receiving line - since I didn't get married in a church, nor did I make it to every table.
I did try to get around to as many people as possible during the cocktail hour.

Re: Married ladies
We did a receiving line at church and thought it would take forever. Turns out it was maybe 10 minutes since we didn't have a huge crowd at church. At our RH we were there at cocktail hour but that was at the very end because we took an hour to get there for pictures. During the night in between our dancing and eating we went around to all of our tables. I personally know how it is when a bride and groom don't go around, and it annoys me. So I made sure we went around to everyone.

Re: Married ladies
We originally planned on a receiving line, but everyone scattered on me to go get food and drinks for CH (ceremony was on site), so FH and I greeted everyone pretty much at CH.
We also walked around the room early on at Reception to take a picture with every table (only had 13), so no one felt they missed out. People who came late came to our table, so I think we touched base with every guest.

Re: Married ladies
i would suggest a receiving line instead of table visits....we had 18 tables and only got to about 10 of them

Re: Married ladies
Table visits are definitely necessary IMO. you need to greet people and thank them for coming. We got through our visits fairly quickly,
Our receiving line took FOREVER. OMG...FOREVER.
I'm glad we did it, I guess since there were people at the church who didn't come to the reception, but wow..our ceremony was PACKED, so there were a LOT of people and some people knew to just say 2 words, give a quick hug and move on, and some people really didn't. I had one of DH's cousins keep insisting that I give her directions to the reception and get indignant when I refused!

Re: Married ladies
Thanks everyone, we will definitly do both receiving line & tables.I just hope that we can do them both quickly enough- do you start the table visits as soon as the reception starts? Also dumb question but when do the speeches get done?

Re: Married ladies
Our speeches got done right after the first dance.
As for the receiving line and table greetings we did neither. We tried to say hello to everyone at CH but it just wasn't happening. Maybe made it through about 1/3-1/2 of the guests. We didn't get to eat at CH which was our sole purpose of going to CH but no one would let us go get food.
As the reception my theroy is there are 220 people there and they have to say hello to 2, I had to say hello to 220. If I saw the person I said hi, mostly on the dancefloor. I even had one cousin call me to her table and when she said 'it's about time you come say hello!' I said 'why? you couldn't find the only girl in the white dress dancing around the dancefloor or was it the small table in the middle of the room that you didn't see?' She deserved it though from past comments she made about our entire planning process.
But yeah, my goal was to enjoy the wedding to the fullest, we paid enough for it!! If we got married in a church (like we have to do in December) we would have just done a receiving line, bc honestly, the ceremony is the most important part and if you don't come to that and get my thank you, then you can find me and thank me for your dinner and drinks!
Sorry I'm a b*tch but after our planning, I'm tired of the 'you really should do this' instead of 'do what will make you guys happy and have fun.'

Re: Married ladies
I'm doing a receiving line, because I know my mom wants me to, but also, I want to be able to kiss everyone hello and be congratulated!! The people who come to church really make an effort to be there for me, thanking them is the least I could do.
In a perfect world, I would love to thank people at tables, but I'm estimating that I will have 300 guests. 300 chatty people. that will take my entire night. I will do my best to thank as many people as possible on the dance floor or just by mingling a bit, but i'm not going make it my goal to visit every table.
