Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

Original post by imas98

I was just thinking about the little things that went wrong on our wedding day and was curious about everyone else ?? I always thought I'd freak out if something went wrong on our wedding day but I was so happy that I seriously didn't care.

Here are mine (most are so unimportant that only I noticed) :

1- I made my hair appointment for 9:30 & when I showed up at the salon they had it down as 10am (not a big deal because I factored in extra time) so I wound up starting around 9:45 instead

2- they gave me the wrong flowers and on my way to meet DH for before pictures the woman comes running down the stairs with the right ones lol

3- my mom was 30 minutes late for pictures and we had a very tight schedule (less than an hour for all family shots)

4- DH's father never wore his boutonniere we got him

5- the rose petals were thrown almost in a pile instead of on the sides of the aisle like I asked for

6- no one threw the rice (eco-fetti) that was passed out. I wanted a cool shot of it flying too.

7- the band didn't play our whole 'play list'

8- the ties on my bustle kept breaking

9- the cake had little sea shells on it when I specifically said 'no shells'

10- The hall didn't serve the chocolate covered strawberries I thought we were getting (I had them on the menu so people actually noticed this ooops)

Ahhhhhh lets see.....

I didnt get any zzzz bc me being a worried mom wanted my daughter at the hotel with me in the AM...haha what a joke she didnt go to bed at all. So i ended up throwing her in the car at 3am and drove to Tanger from the Hyatt so she can finally go to bed. That didnt happen till 5am and she ended up having to get up at 7 so I could go back into the hotel and shower!

Well scrach that i didnt shower there bc when I got to my room the faucet broke and there was water all over the place. So I had to drive to my moms and shower with 30 mins to spare b4 hair and make up got there.

IT POURED!!!

The Msgnr who married us had no idea! He didnt do our unity candle. He didnt bless the rings..but then realized it and did it. When it came to mentioning ppl who werent there that passed on....never said their names! I was sooo mad over that. The church we used was my late grandmothers and I Wanted her name in my ceremony. Didnt do the blessed mother...Ahhh...oh forgot to mention we were hubby and wife!! I dont even think he said u can kiss the bride!!!

Florist was suppse to be at my house at 10 didnt show till almost 12

Fought with the limo guy bc he told me the 2 hr spand we had for pics wasnt enough time to take us where we need....total BS so big mouth me had to tell him off!

Didnt decorate my cake the right way.

My bussle broke within 20 mins....thank god for safey pins!

we forgot my toss bo-k so i ended up not doing that or garter

Duets pics came out like ballz compared to eveyone elses pics! I had a must take list that they never used or brought with them. SO many pics were never done. Sadly I have ppl making comments on who I used bc they never would!

I paid for Duet to eat...and they didnt. Kinda pissed me off bc we paid for all them already and 1/2 the time they were just sitting by the door doing crapola! Oh did I mention they left 20 mins early?!?!

The bartender cursed out my cousin...now i wasnt there for this. I didnt even know it happened..but id think if a worker at WM had an issue he tell his boss and not take it in his own hands and have my guests witness his yelling.

We were lucky....nothing major went wrong. The few little things:

1) The tux DH ordered was mis-labeled (tag said 40, but it was only a 34!) so they had to rush order a different one.

2) My dad's boutinerre broke as mom was trying to pin it on. SIL did some crafty work with a straight pin and fixed it.

3) My bra shows in a lot of the pics. Oh well, at least it was flesh-colored and can be photoshopped out!

i totally forgot to add that during my dad's welcome speech, he made sure to announe to the entire room that he is a recovering alcoholic. (which i'm proud he's sober--but seriously did you HAVE to announce it when welcoming everybody)

and then said '...and there is a table of of recovering alcoholics here...i'm not gonna say which one...but they are here and they have helped me thru the years.' (yeah its the table where no one is DRINKING, der!)

[there was a table there cause my dad insisted i invite members of his AA group]

i was just mortified and a little perturbed cause my dad is the type where everything HAS to be about him...and he had the mic in his hand and he just couldn't help himself and bring it back to HIM.

(btw--he managed to say it in both english and spanish cause he translated)

This is truly one of the funniest things I've ever read!!

1. cake was the wrong color.. was supposed to be champagne instead of whtie
2. the wrong ribbons were used on bouquets
3. dj didn't play certain songs on a cd I worked my butt off that I put together.. but those things worked out
4. my dads videocamera went dead when the ceremony started lol but powered up for the reception

those were really really minor things.. Otherwise i would say the day was perfection

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

Yay i finally have time to post here!!

Lots went wrong on our day but most of it was so minor I don't even care about it anymore...although right after the ceremony I started crying cuz I was so upset I felt like everything was going wrong that day.

Lets start off with the worst: Flowers.... they were a disaster and this is NOT one of those things Iw ill laugh about in 10 years. I wanted my bo-k and my bm bo-ks to be all mini callas... bms were supposed to be white and mine pink and white... BM bo-ks were soooo small I thought i was a joke and they only had like 4 white callas and the rest was filled with some green crap because apparently she didn't have enough callas. My bo-k was pretty except it was not the right color at all and there was some other flower in besides the callas...I gave her tons of pictures so this should not have happened. Centerpieces were horrid...I asked for just lilies in square vases... we got cylindric vases and the lilies were not even opened!!! And we were 1 bout. shourt until right before the ceremony.

My dress was TOO LONG...I couldn't take 2 steps without stepping on it...and the stupid lady at the tailors said it was perfect

Now for the more harmless things...

Some music confusion during the ceremony...we couldn't hear it from when we were entering and no one was there to give us cues or anything, and at parts during the ceremony they did not start and finish on time.

Hair did not cooperate and started falling out before I even saw FH because it was so hot out and there weren't enough bobby pins in I guess so my sister had to fix it.

Bustle lasted for like 5 minutes

1 FG didn't come because she got sick, the other was really nervous and refused to smile and didn't through petals

FHs mom did not dress up at all... wore a really cheap looking pants set..not even pant suit...just something that look like she wears everyday...then she didn't smile in most of the pictures and we had to do the parent shots like 20 times until she smiled while looking at the friggin camera

Memorial candle blew out after about 30 seconds despite being in a hurricane vase, then no one brought it into the reception and there was just an empty candle holder there with nothing on it.

Sister got really drunk and then got really emotional and started crying because she misses her bf

There were some other little things that bothered me but all in all it was one of the best days ever and I had a blast!

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

My flowers-I was totally disapointed in the vendor that I had the most confidence in. My bouquet was too small and had 4 roses turn brown before I got to the church and the majority of it wilted soon after the ceremony. The BM boquets were way too small. The FG boquets looked like weeds. The CP's weren't the right color. The bouts had some berries attached when I specially said 'just roses'. The pew bows looked like something from the dollar store and were supposed to be every other row. The church arrangements were all white and were supposed to have colors.

Church-The priest screwed up big time. He had the unity candle at the beginning of the ceremony. He forgot that my cousin was reading the hand's poem and I gave him a look, so she did read it while we were sitting down and then the priest said 'oh there's an addition to the ceremony that I didn't know about' My brother walked me down the aisle and then sat with the groomsmen (yes we had a rehearsal). The biggest screw up with the church is that they had this ugly projector screen on the altar, which ruined my pictures. My wedding started late because of some adoration that wasn't supposed to be on that day and DH didn't notice the screen cause he came out of the church on the other side. See pic.

I had my makeup done, but added additional concealer to my eyes and I look like a ghost. Hopefully, it will be able to be touched up in the professional pics.

Despite these mishaps, it was still a great day.

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

I had so many things go wrong but that day none of it bothered me at all!!!

**My period was soooo heavy that day! Luckily I had no cramps but I kept having to change my tampon (no fun when you're wearing a huge gown)

**The woman who was supposed to do my hair at the salon didn't show up on time for my appointment (even though I called to confirm the day before and she said she'd be there!), so I was freaking out a little and they gave me someone else (which actually worked out better because she did a better job!)

**The door lock broke on my bathroom door at home while I was inside, and I was locked inside my bathroom, like an hour before my wedding! Luckily I figured out how to fix it in a couple of minutes, but I had a scare there!

**The church parking lot was filled with cars who were there for a kids' basball game and the other half of the parking lot was closed off for summer camp, so there was like barely any parking space for my guests at the church! Many parked on the street.

**The usual drunken, horribly dressed, embarrassing guests.. and some no-shows

**My cake was sooo plain-looking because I didn't do anything to decorate it! No cake topper, no flowers, nothing... oops! (my mistake)

**My mom called me about 2 hours before my wedding and goes 'have you seen your dad?'... I was like NO... turns out he actually went to work for a few hours the morning of the wedding without telling anybody!!!! I still tease him about that. Luckily he got back in time.

**My husband's parents almost missed our ceremony completely because they hit awful traffic coming down from where they live upstate.. they literally got to the church 5 minutes before I walked down the aisle! (I told them at the rehearsal, we're starting whether you're on time or not!)

**Some of our vendors made some minor mistakes that nobody would notice but me.

I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting... these are the highlights that stick out in my mind! If I think of more, I'll edit this post. But seriously I was SO happy that day that none of it bothered me. It wouldn't be a wedding without some stuff going wrong!! It makes the day more interesting lol!

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

1. Woke up with a nice red pimple on my chin!
2. My french manicure was all messed up and I had to go get it fixed.
3. Hair was SERIOUSLY rushed and barely held up through the day- but that should have been expected.
4. My MOHs were very late to the house to dress me - so the poor photographer and videographer had to do what they could with 40 minutes of nothing going on.
5. Forgot that flowers were going to be delivered as my makeup was being done so I never set aside the tip. My mom tipped the guy $5!
6. I forgot to designate someone to deliver the bouttonieres (sp?) and all that stuff to DH's hotel. So my BIL (who also walked me down the aisle) had to rush over to mom's house as I frantically tried to figure out which one belonged to whom, then he had to drive over, and my sister/MOH and Jr BM/jr GM had to wait til he came home to drive them to mom's house- hence, the reason one of my MOHs was late to dress me (the other one was late due to hair running over).
7. My bouquet was not like the picture I gave them- it was supposed to be mostly callas with a sprinking of roses- it turned out to be the opposite.
8. My sisters were VERY unsure with what they were doing while tying up my corset....my dress was not nearly as tight as it should have been so it affected the look of it...and I had to keep adjusting the top so that I'd feel like it was holding my boobs up!
9. The lovely selfish bride before me was CRAZY late...so my ceremony started a HALF HOUR LATE! Our poor guests who were on time or early were hanging around in the heat with nowhere to go. This also made picture taking a rush, and kept us from going to the park as planned.
10. Limo driver did not have the right aisle runner with him- St. Rose has a 120 ft. aisle and they had that noted in my contract. Still came with one too short.
11. My photographers - as well as myself- forgot to encourage the guests to wave the pennants around us and to take a pic of that! Oh well!
12. Get to the hall - THE CAKE HAD A RIBBON OF BASEBALLS around it!!! He KNEW I did not want anything silly or childish. I wanted classy and I get baseballs. Grrrr. I got over it fast though- what can you do?
13. DJ did not personally tell me he was not going to be DJing my wedding and sent a replacement (I only heard from my banquet manager about this a few days before but never got a confirmation). This led to a few nitpicky things that went wrong. Specific requests I made- with very specific instructions typed out for them.
14. DJ assistant positioned the chair for the garter removal toward the back of the room - facing away from the guests, so no one could see what was going on.
15. My bouquet got stuck in the ceiling during the toss!
But that's a good one!

Whew, it was good to get that all out of me!!!

After all that though- it was STILL the best day of my life! Girls, don't let ANYTHING stress you on your day! I was stressed all morning (Though very happy from ceremony on) and I wish I could get that back - I'd much rather have been happy and unaffected that morning, and instead all I remember was being frustrated.

ENJOY YOUR DAY!

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

just a couple of funny things:

DH & GM forgot their boutonnières..

Ring bearer cried before going down the aisle because he wanted roses on his pillow , so BIL helped walk him down and he was fine..

For the boq toss, I did not throw the boq far enough so no one really caught it..

My veil caught a mussel shell so my dress was stained with sauce but the tide pen to the rescue.. (will have to send the photo to tide!!)
when this happened i called for my mom and i kept saying a mussel got caught on my dress and she was thinking i was saying bustle my dress...

For disappointments - my flowers were not what i wanted for the ceremony decor, MOH boq was not want we ordered and there was no boq for the bridal toss..

but in the end it was a beautiful day and we are happily married!!!

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

ohmigod, I totally missed this thread when it started!

Outfit wise, my hair disintegrated fairly early on... because it was very humid and drizzly, and we had outdoor pics prior to the ceremony. We took pictures on the docks during the CH, and my hair COMPLETELY died with the wind. At the reception, I stepped on my bustle during our first dance, and tore one of those ribbons. I gave up and slung the train over my arm the rest of the evening.

The flowers were gorgeous.... very full and fresh... but they accidentally delivered an extra bo-k to us, which should have gone to another wedding. They fetched it from us 10 min before we walked down the isle! We also missed or lost a bouteniere for my uncle who gave a reading in the church.

I had to wait for my MOH, so we arrived at the hairdresser's a 1/2 hour late..... then they spent more time on her hair than mine

I was a bit nervous about the vintage car, becuase the wipers weren't working, so if it rained, he would have to pull over and wait out the rain. mercifully, the weather held up... but I was getting calls while my hair was getting done.

the big source of chaos that day was our families. EVERYONE was EVERYWHERE. I had to wait in line to go to the bathroom before stepping in my gown! We had literally 10+ people at our place while getting ready.... a total big fat polish/german wedding moment....... They were also around the entire day before, the evening after the reception, and the entire next day. Truly too much!

oh, almost forgot.... DH and I bought a piece of handmade lace while on vacation... I designed and sewed our ring pillow with that lace as a decoration.... It took days to complete, and our pillow disappeared right after our ceremony I actually did detective work (using all the movies and pics our friends sent), and after 6 weeks I determined my friend (who has a bad memory problem ) was the last to have it. Lo and behold, it was in her car the entire time!

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

here are my top mishaps in order of importance..

1. an entire box of my stuff seemingly dissappeared. therefore i had no guest book, no petal cones, and no special sand ceremony frame. i still havent found the box or received any compensation from the hall or my stuff back SO glad i spent countless hours coming up with the ideas and all the hours of labor to make it happen. my wedding was amazing - but missing these things def made the day imperfect and it def did annoy me at the time of the wedding as well...

2. during pre-ceremony photos my mom stepped on my train with her burgundy dyed shoes and because we were taking pics in the grass that was still wet from dew - they ran ALL over my train. luckily my awesome DOC was able to mask the stains with white out!!

3. the hem on my dress was slightly too long. i stepped on it all morning and it was incredibly hard to walk down the aisle (outdoors so it was grass). in most of the nonpro pics i look unhappy cause i was concentrating SO hard on not stepping on my dress! my DOC came to the rescue and pinned it up right before the first dance or DH would have creamed me!!

4. my fault - but i def dont think i took enough pics with my birdesmaids and i just plain old forgot about some of the pics i wanted to take (like one with thank you signs - left them in the room, and not enough formal pics with my flower girl). in all i really feel like i didnt spend enough time with my bridesmaids at all at the wedding. even at the end the photographer asked if we wanted any more pics and i just didnt think to do more with the bridal party and i really wish that i had. im just hoping that the photojournalist got enough great shots when we didnt know it!!

5. it was windy during the outdoor ceremony and my veil kept blowing in my face and my mom (also MOH) had to hold it for like half the ceremony

6. my bustle just would not even remotely stay up. about half way through my DOC sewed it up so it wouldnt get trampled. but the original clip didnt even last long enough for the main entrance to the reception!!

7. band mixed up the garter toss and bouquet toss songs....i tossed the bouquet first. and while i was watching DH do the garter i realized that they were playing Just a Girl by No Doubt!! LOL all in all my band rocked the house so now DH and I laugh when we hear Just a Girl cause it made NO SENSE but was really funny for anyone that noticed (i think i was the only one that noticed - DH didnt realize til i told him and we watched our raw footage video!!)

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

I feel like so much went wrong that day. I'm the only one who noticed most of it, but it really bothered me. My wedding wasn't at a regular catering hall so I had to deal with all of the problems.

-the dj showed up about 15 minutes before the ceremony started, messed up my ceremony entrance song, didn't play a few of my must-play-list songs, and never called to tell me he couldn't find the version of the father/daughter dance I wanted, which I had at home!

-Neither the bartender, waitstaff, or DOC filled the toast glasses on the tables because I never specifically told them too.

-The top of my cake was cut up and served because I never specifically said 'wrap that up'. I assumed it was common knowledge that it's supposed to be saved and now I have no cake for our anniversary!

-Apparently the caterer never told the wait staff they would be serving dessert. They did, without any complaints, but my chocolate fountains looked awful and were stuck in a corner.

-my limo driver had no idea where he was going and was very nasty when we ran 15 minutes late. When he came to pick us up at the end of the night he followed me around the hall to hurry up my good byes!!

-my DOC kept coming to me with all of the problems and asking what I wanted to do about it. I was so irritated by the end of the night I just yelled to everyone 'I'm done making decisions. I don't care what happens anymore. Leave me alone'

-apparently there was chaos after DH and I left. A groomsman cursed out my father, BIL locked the keys in the car and my in-laws were stuck in the parking lot until 3 am, we were told we could pick up our decorations the following morning but at 1am the hall said no, do it now, because there was another party the next day. I'm very glad we were gone.

I think a lot of the problems were my own fault for being lax with my planning and over confident that my vendors understood what I wanted. But it definitely put a damper on my day.

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

-I was an hour late to my own wedding.
I flew in my godson from Argentina just so he could be my ring bearer and I forgot the ring pillow so he just walked next to the flower girl.

-My bridal attendant did nothing for me. She didn't even give me cake, so I didn't eat wedding cake.

-I had a headache at the end of the night.

-The candy bar I spent so much time and money on was set up in the corner. Nobody saw it not even the kids and even if they had seen it, the hall forgot to put out any of the 500 paper bags I gave them for the cand so nobody would be able to take candy home anyway.

- For our second reading I accidentally chose a Gospel and printed out the reading in our programs. When the priest saw it in my program during the rehersal he was a little upset but since I printed them out he said my friend could read it and he would just read another Gospel so I wouldn't have to change the program. Well since I was an hour late to the wedding we had to change it from full mass to ceremony so everything in the program was off anyway. nobody noticed.

Those were only little things. None of them ruined my day or even got me upset. Every major thing I planned went off perfectly.

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

The only things that I can think of where all with my DJ.

1. I had 2 songs for the ceremony processional - one for the BP & one for me & my dad. When my Dad & I were walking down the aisle to our song, it skipped at one point, which annoyed me, but got over it quick.

2. When DH & I had our 1st dance the DJ invited the BP to join us, when I specifically said that I did not want that. I want only DH & I to dance to the entire song by ourselves. I was really pissed about that, but again I let it go....

3. DJ also played the wrong song for DH's garter toss. The song that he played, I had never heard it before.

Other than these 3 things everything else was great. The DJ did have the party jumping all night. I had a great time & he did play the exact mix of music that I was looking for.

One other thing that went wrong was my bustle. I had both a regular & a french Bustle. My mother (who came to my final fitting) was able to to the french part but she could not find the little button for the regular part. So part of my dress was still dragging & it got stepped on a lot. But i did not let it bother me. I had a blast!! if it got in my way while dancing I just picked it & kept it moving!!

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

1. My veil was left at home- luckily my Aunt was able to pick it up and it made it in time for the ceremony!
2. Flower petals were supposed to be spread out on every table around the centerpieces, not just mine.
3. Luckily it didn't rain but it was pretty windy out so my hair lost all its curl in the wind b4 the ceremony even started (it only looks good in my solo pics which were taken 1st thing)
4. We left a mini train even when my dress was bustled...so it kept gettin stepped on and popping. I must have been bustled at least 6 times!!!
5. My DH didn't try on the entire tux- so his tie went down to his knees- had to tuck it in-no one noticed
6. Limo s*cked. It started to rain as soon as we got in the limo and the windows were stuck down. Took forever for the limo guy to fix that. Then the trunk kept popping open. Def a POS!!
7.. No one announced the cordial bar- so no one knew it was there

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

Nothing really went wrong just little things that disgusted me:

1) David's Bridal screwed up and when I picked up my dress I noticed there wasnt a bustle on it like the one I tried on. They never told me that it didn't come like that. My mom argued with the girl in Alterations then one of the other girls came up and said she will do it at her house. So I ran to her house the day before the wedding to get the bustle put on. I really appreciate her help but can't mention her name becasue I dont' want to get her in trouble.

2) I was not told where to get dressed. It was supposed to be in the bridal suite but we werent told that until after the fact so I was late by a half hour for photos.

3) the night before my MIL and DH's side of the family decided to go and party in the lounge. They drank so much that MIL had to be helped up to her room by 2 other drunk cousins. It was really embarrassing. The whole family was bombed. The next morning everyone on his side was hung over and they couldn't enjoy the wedding becasue of that. Everyone had headaches. My MIL later admitted she should have waited until that night to do what she did I just looked at her and said DUH. DH told her she should have waited like everyone else. His whole side sat on thier butts while my family got up and danced the night away.

Everything else was great and excellent. I have no complaints except for DH's side acting the way they were but the pics will show when I get them.

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

I really wouldn't say things went wrong, but...

1. My hair person flaked on me a few days before. Luckily, my cousin is really good friends with someone who works in a terrific salon and they accomodated us.

2. I was sick--really sick.
My make-up person had me drink tea with a shot of whiskey to clear me up.

3. The FG basket weighed twice as much as the FG. We took out a few flowers and just had her walk down with a few stems of roses.

4. MIL said she was going to have this family ride in the limo. After the ceremony, her and my parents had an Escalade limo all to themselves--where were all her family members that were supposed to ride in there?!

5. Some of my pick-ups at the very, very bottom came un-done. The maitre'd fixed it for me no problem

6. DH's dad passed out for the night right after introductions!

I have the best story ever: MY FH pushed too hard on the cake when he was cutting it and IT FELL ON THE FLOOR!
I did not get upset for a second: It is just a cake, he said he was trying to get a bigger piece for me

Wow, I am falling on the floor laughing...

Honestly.....NOTHING!!!! I am being honest. My bm's were 15 min late, which I didnt care about and it didnt cause a prob cus I made sure I told them to come earlier then they were supposed to ( CUS I knew they were going to be late haha ) So yeah....Nothing went wrong... My hall was amazing

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long

we just had a few minor things, but nothing big:

1) my hair lady gave me an attitude because i decided i wanted to wear my hair down, so she just blew it out and wouldn't style it. so i had to have my MOH do my hair at my house later on

2) men's warehouse forgot to give my FIL shoes for his tux and he didn't notice until he went to put the tux on. oops.

3) the officiant opened our wedding ceremony by welcoming people to the wedding of 'Randi Jean and Christopher'. Too bad DH's name is Christian. I know that would really upset some people, but I just laughed and corrected him. He called him Chris the rest of the time.

4) my MIL ran to the bathroom before we could stop her and DH ended up dancing with MY MOM for the mother/son dance until they could get MIL out of the potty.

5) the stupid LIE was closed, so the party bus had to take 25A all the way to rt 110, so our trip home from the wedding was almost 2 hrs. couldn't be avoided though, but man, those of us who suffer from motion sickness (myself included) certainly had a rough time.

luckily, that's all i got :) i wouldn't change ANYTHING, even the Randi Jean & Christopher part. It gave me a good laugh.
