Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long
Original post by imas98
I was just thinking about the little things that went wrong on our wedding day and was curious about everyone else ?? I always thought I'd freak out if something went wrong on our wedding day but I was so happy that I seriously didn't care.
Here are mine (most are so unimportant that only I noticed) :
1- I made my hair appointment for 9:30 & when I showed up at the salon they had it down as 10am (not a big deal because I factored in extra time) so I wound up starting around 9:45 instead
2- they gave me the wrong flowers and on my way to meet DH for before pictures the woman comes running down the stairs with the right ones lol
3- my mom was 30 minutes late for pictures and we had a very tight schedule (less than an hour for all family shots)
4- DH's father never wore his boutonniere we got him
5- the rose petals were thrown almost in a pile instead of on the sides of the aisle like I asked for
6- no one threw the rice (eco-fetti) that was passed out. I wanted a cool shot of it flying too.
7- the band didn't play our whole 'play list'
8- the ties on my bustle kept breaking
9- the cake had little sea shells on it when I specifically said 'no shells'
10- The hall didn't serve the chocolate covered strawberries I thought we were getting (I had them on the menu so people actually noticed this ooops)

As a bride to be, this thread really makes me laugh, cause before hand I feel like OMG how crazy the day will be if all this happens. But seeing how calm and cool you girls are laughing all this stuff off makes me have faith that there will be a calm the morning of the wedding when I wake up

I have to start by saying by far It was the Best Day of our life and our wedding was so beautiful, we couldnt ask for more. Even though a few things went wrong, nothing in the end ruined our day but I do have to wonder about a few vendors especially the one we spent two hours at the night before our wedding because of errors and things were still wrong with the florist 1. Flowers never arrived at the hotel, they were over two hours late, florist would not take Docs call when they did open, finally she gets through and they say they couldnt find the room, we didnt give a room number, well hello, we were there for 2 darn hours the night before, just were we didnt want to be the night before our wedding and we personally gave her the room number. 2. The flowers were delivered, they then dropped them off and ran off, never called us or anything so now we leave for our portraits without the flowers. 3. Flowers and branches on pews which we paid alot of money for were 100 % wrong. I had white birch stick 4-6 feet high with flowers and white bow, what they gave me 1-2 inch white sticks with small clumps of flowers, when i saw that i wanted to screen real loud, but couldnt as I was walking down the aisle when I noticed, have yet to call my disaster florist. 4. 1933 Packard blew a gasket and broke down, we did our pictures before, so when the groom picked me up there was so much white smoke, it was the funniest thing we have ever seen, but then we almost didnt make it to the chateau briand for portraits, it took 10 times to start and blew smoke all the way, broke down right in front of the chateau, but they had one hour to get us another car and they did..we were sad not to have our car, but were happy to have anything at the point with air conditioning too it was like 95 degress outside. 5. The cake was not the cake we ordered, long story plus it was very dry.
As brides and grooms say, these were funny things yet sad, some were major vendor problems others acts of god which people made good on, we had the time our our life for sure.
Lol I had that Packard the weekend before..
I had the packard the next day!!1 OH MYGOD!!
dammm that car got around!!

where to begin... 1. they lost my final deposit..which was a bank check.. 2. someone took 27 favors, they weren't small either , they were espresso pots... 3. my matre'd(sp) made me cry before i went into the reception..'she said i'm really surprised at you, you were so organized up until this moment...here is your folder, start counting and telling me where to put these guests who don't have a seat....' first of all why did i pay you...aren't you a catering hall.. and the list goes on..... but overall it was a great day...lol

Of course, some of these things are worse than others, like the cake falling! and the duct tape, but it's amazing how the little things don't matter so much on the day. I did get a bit snappy when things were running really late, but that was more nervousness than anything else. Once we got to the hall, I was so happy, nothing mattered.
And I thought of two more: 1.: they put us at a sweetheart table even though I specifically did the seating plan putting us at a table of the bridal party and friends. I didn't want a sweetheart table, I wanted to sit with my guests, and I spent months negotiating with family members who refused to sit with each other to work out a seating plan that didn't get anyone upset. Then we walked into the hall and we were at our own table. It was too late to complain. 2. There was wine during the ceremony. The Jewish ceremony uses wine, but I don't touch wine, I have chronic pancreatitis, and a glass of wine would probably put me in the hospital. I don't touch alcohol at all, even when it's cooked in food or in candies or something. So there I was, expected to sip the wine. We had all walked down the aisle, it was too late to demand a glass of juice or Sprite. I pretended to drink--twice--and I'm sorry about that, it was a part of the ceremony that we both drank. I did tell both the rabbi and the RH that it had to be non-alcoholic, too. Oh well. That's a shot of me pretending to drink the wine.

I have the best story ever: MY FH pushed too hard on the cake when he was cutting it and IT FELL ON THE FLOOR! I did not get upset for a second: It is just a cake, he said he was trying to get a bigger piece for me
The cake on the floor is my favorite!!! I would hvae died laughing if that happened to us.. At least you were a good sport about it!!!!

I was hoping someone would realize this after reading this thread....i thought I'd freak out if something went wrong. Before the wedding people try to tell you 'don't worry about it, it's not that important' but of course you still worry because you've never had a wedding before and don't know that it's really not that important lol
Oh I remembered another thing to add to the list too:
# 11 - I did not get a group shot of our bridal party together......CAN YOU IMAGINE ?!?! How could the photographer forget that I don't know. I have tons of shots of the bridal party but just none of us as a group. Oh well. I didn't even notice until the next day.

i totally forgot to add that during my dad's welcome speech, he made sure to announe to the entire room that he is a recovering alcoholic. (which i'm proud he's sober--but seriously did you HAVE to announce it when welcoming everybody)
and then said '...and there is a table of of recovering alcoholics here...i'm not gonna say which one...but they are here and they have helped me thru the years.' (yeah its the table where no one is DRINKING, der!)
[there was a table there cause my dad insisted i invite members of his AA group]
i was just mortified and a little perturbed cause my dad is the type where everything HAS to be about him...and he had the mic in his hand and he just couldn't help himself and bring it back to HIM.
(btw--he managed to say it in both english and spanish cause he translated)
ROARING WITH LAUGHTER....

Ok so:
The van that was supposed to take me & my BMs to the ceremony/RH LEFT without us. They said they 'waited 20 minutes'. Gee, a WHOLE 20 minutes? If I wanted them to come back, it would be $250 more & it would take 30 minutes. I had no ride to my wedding! We had to pile in cars & drive there. I was late for pictures.
My sister showed up SUPER HIGH and unshowered, made a scene and LEFT my wedding 1 hour into it. My only sibling bailed out on me. She started telling me that I was going to 'ruin my life' by getting married. Yeah.... REAL COOL.. She also had her BM dress altered into a fricking MINIDRESS!!! It was supposed to be tea length. Her hooter was practically hanging out.
Not a big deal, but BIL's GF wore a bright white dress... slightly annoying.
I couldn't find DH when we got back to the hotel and I was DEMANDING to be carried over the threshold. So my gay friend did it & WHACKED my head on the door frame. He said it was the first time he 'picked up' a girl.
The BUS we reserved (from a company I can't mention or this will get pulled ) showed up over 20 minutes late to bring my guests to my ceremony, Then he didn't know where to go & got lost. My ceremony started 30 minutes late. Then at the after party, the bus driver & his wife ordered lobster dinners & sent me the bill ($160). Then he brought 1/2 of my guests back to the hotel and never went back for the other half!!!

The day of the wedding, it was really little things that I didn't really notice till the next day when my MIL and I talked. A week before the wedding, I was pissed as my BM cancelled, my brother and his family bad to go do training for Iraq.
-calla lilies were wrong color, supposed to be pink but were purple.
-there were supposed to be flowers on the tiers of the cake.
-our DJ didn't do everything we wanted
-Oh and the DJ didn't introduce a BM and GM!
-at the reception, my veil ripped when I was getting up from a chair!

The sister & the lobster thing are not funny but the way you tell it cracked me up !
I've heard people say 'if something doesn't go wrong it's not a wedding' - i think that's true now. These stories are memories we can laugh about for years !
My funniest moment was when this old woman in a bikini walked right in the front of our arch where we were getting married. Everyone saw her and alot of people came up to me later on laughing about it Lucky me, I'll have the memory forever since my photographer took a picture of her

1) My own Mom and MIL screwed up doing the Unity candle during our ceremony. They thought they had to light it. DH and myself were like, 'um, hello MOM - way to pay attention!!'
2) My bustle didn't stay correctly so I had to pin the sides.
3) Our limo driver proceeded to ask DH about overtime charges while doing our photos in front of the church. I thought DH was going to punch him in the face.
4) My uncle who walked my mom down the aisle at the church never received a boutonniere.
5) I never got a throw away bouquet so I had to use one of my BM's.
6) We missed 45 minutes of our cocktail hour.
7) My cousin's shoes were dyed the wrong color and she was in our BP
8) I had a headache by the end of the night from all the excitement!
All in all the day was perfect and I wouldn't change a thing!

# 12 - I messed up the placecards ! I swapped the names for a table set for 12 with a table set for 11....so our bestman didn't have a seat when he got to his table after he was announced !

Another one: it was windy and my fingertip veil kept blowing inbetween our faces. Then it blew off entirely! My sister, the MOH, tried to jam it back into my hair (ow!) but I whispered to her to forget it, it was just going to blow around again. So my advice is if it's windy during your ceremony, pin your veil to your dress or something!
And I never got a few things back after the wedding--my vintage cake topper, which cost a few bucks, and the really fab original boxes for my vintage serving set. I emailed the hall but they didn't turn up. I'm wondering if someone dropped the topper during setup, as I don't remember seeing it on the cake table (it was too big to sit on a cake) and it's not in any of the photos.

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long
There was no big issues with any vendors guest or bridal party...I can only think of a few minor things such as...
1.Maid service was late cleaning my room before photographer came so the women who was doing my hair in the spa was annoyed and sent up one of her girls to clean the rooms for us.
2. Guest book was not in the lobby, it was near the cake and ice sculpture so not alot of peeps signed it.
3. Throw away BOK was supposed to be silk daisies yet it was white roses...no biggie.
4. 2 bridesmaids weren't thrilled with their hair...oh well the should have spoke up before the left the salon ,right?
5. We forgot to take pictures with DH grandma and forgot to take pics of our wedding bands on our hands.

Re: Married Ladies - What went wrong on your day ? long
My flowers The only thing that I allowed myself to spend a fair amount of money on and made multiple calls about turned out horrible. They were pretty flowers, but NOT at all what I wanted or asked for. I was devestated, and still to this day very upset. I was pretty what ever about the wedding. I wanted to elope, but noone wanted us to. I was excited for the wedding but more excited for it to be over. The flowers were the only thing I REALLY wanted to be perfect and they weren't even close
